Lot's of anti-atheist "questions" tonight...

Over the last few hours, I've seen people accuse atheists of being "incapable of feeling love", "without morals", "rejects/nerds/emos/punks/goths", "heretics" and "devil worshippers".

I'd like a true opinion from a true believer: what is your position on people who either:
- Deny the existence of God
- Do not believe in the non-material existence of souls or in the afterlife.
- Do not believe there is actual proof that God exists

Are we all emotionless drones or tools of Satan to you?

I would just like to add, to avoid confusion, that I direct this question towards all religions and beliefs. It's just difficult to come up with a short and clear question without having to give too many variants (God, gods, higher being, spirits, etc.) I appologize for not being clear the first time and appear to only direct this question at Christianity.

you say "true believer"

but who exactly are you directing this towards?

I am a true believer, but I am a true believer in Judaism, and I kinda get the sense that you are directing this more towards Christians

but, I will answer for me, anyway

what is my position on people who deny the existence of G-d?

I feel sorry for them that they do not have the deep sense of calm and happiness I have when I think about the things in life that are beyond our comprehension, when I think about G-d
....I just feel bad because it's an important part of my life and I wish other's could feel that connection too

what is my opinion on people who do not believe in souls or the afterlife?
I feel a little envious that they don't dwell on things like I do...but on the other hand I feel a little sorry because it gives me comfort to think about how, eventually, most souls will end up with G-d....and without those thoughts I'd probably rail against the unjustices of life even more, and feel even more helpless about the atrocities that go on each day

knowing that the most evil will be held accountable makes life bearable for me...and to think that people like Hitler wouldn't suffer...that's a hard pill to swallow

what do I think about people who do not believe there is actual proof that G-d exists?

I can see their point of view.....but I would disagree with them anyway....lol

are you all emotionless drones?

of course not

are you all tools of Satan?

absolutely not...but than again, I personally am of the belief that Satan is only a tool of G-d, so there ya go

Believers only??? What kind of forum is this?
If you believe anything that you are told, especially if you are told it often enough, then you will believe all that nonsense about atheists that you quote.
It IS nonsense. Atheists are just a wide range of ordinary people who fit into the demographics much the same as religious-freaks do.

I speak for myself only but you just KNOW that I also speak for thousands of atheists ...
I am not only capable of love, I am a very emotional and romantic person.
I am very much WITH morals and quite the opposite of the inmates of your jails, where the bulk are christians.
I am very ordinary to look at - I am not a teenage rebel (I'm 66!!!!!) so I am niot a reject, nerd, emo, punk, goth or anything out of the ordinary, just as, again, thousands of other atheists are.
Heretic? Please!!!
Devil-sworshipper? I don't accept that the devil exists so why should I 'worship' it?

I deny the existence of ANY god, as they have always been, throughout the history of mankind, man-made inventions. This current one is no different. Are you suggesting that Zeus and all the other minor gods were actually real?

I do not accept the existence of a soul. The soul is another man-made invention, created to explain to ancient man how one gets from the dead body to the non-existent heaven. Very conveniently, no-one has ever seen one because, perfect solution to back up a lie, it's INVISIBLE!!!

There IS NO actual proof that any god exists. If there were, it would have been paraded through the streets and made front page news ... it never has and never will.
If I told you that there WAS a group of invisible blue monkeys who controlled mankind's destiny, you'd think I was nuts. Same applies. Just another confidence trick. I'd have to write a book to back up the claim and I'd have to do it a few thousand years ago to gain any credibility ...

Now I do realise that I have used words which are directed at the questioner, which, it becomes apparent, is not the 'target'. So, soak it up if it is meant for the next jesus-freak reader.

not at all, those who don't believe in God are human. In fact, my Bible tells me that the demons believe in God and shutter, so I would not call a non-believer a tool of satan, although it is possible.

There was a time when I was a non-believer and I was NOT a tool of satan. I just made a decision without having enough information. I was young and didn't know any better. As I got older, I learned the importance of getting the FACTS. Once I did that, it was obvious to me how wrong I had been.

There's no point in name calling to make a point. We can agree to disagree without the sparks and childish nonsense.

To my experience in meeting non-believers, most make the same mistake I did, they decide without getting the facts. The truth is sweet and for those I have met that agree that most atheist have not done their home work at all. They read a few articles or a book or two and think the have the FACTS, they don't, what they have is someone else's opinion at best. You cannot prove there is no God anymore than I can prove there is, so lets just agree to disagree without the name calling, childish nonsense.

Believers and non-believers, grow and be nice. Its okay to disagree, it just means that one of you are wrong and that's fine, it happens, get over it.

"- Deny the existence of God"
Personally, I do not think such a position can be adequately defended despite a relatively long history dating from David Hume at least.

"- Do not believe in the non-material existence of souls or in the afterlife."
This is quite separate from the first issue. There are lots of religious folk who hold to this view; Buddhists are a good example.

"- Do not believe there is actual proof that God exists"
This is largely (IMHO, of course) inattention to the current debate. There is much current interest in the Argument from Contingency since two new forms of this very old argument (prior to Aquinas) have return in interesting and currently sound ways.

Atheists as a whole share --at least those of western culture-- common understandings of ethics, science, the arts, and the humanities. Unfortunately, they share the current defective views of ethics, science, the arts and the humanities.

Let me just start off by saying that as a Christian, I've come across many Atheists on Y!A who are so disrespectful, name-calling, immature, and more importantly, degrading or mocking God. So I'm very impressed and appreciate reading a serious, non-derogatory question from an Atheist.

To answer your question, I guess for me it's ignorance -- meaning uninformed. For example, we learn about love from God's example, about how Jesus died for us, which shows (us) the ultimate love; we use the Bible as a guide for our lives. So on what do Atheists base your lives, morals; who is your role model, who/what do you credit for the miracle of life, etc.?

I don't think of Atheists as rejects/nerds, etc.; I think of them more as ignorant -- again, meaning uninformed. I feel like we have this great gift, and we can't wait to share it with those that don't believe, so they can enjoy the happiness we have. Anyway, that's where I'm coming from. Hope this helps.

To be honest, it isn't wise for anyone to form an opinion about another's beliefs. Atheists have very valid points and most have studied to reach the place that lets them release the need for faith in their lives. It isn't right to judge on that basis.

There is no proof of God, Goddess, Higher Being, Universal Life Force, or whatever we call it. Works that are used to support faith, like the Bible, are not proof of anything.

Each person should believe what fulfills them and makes sense to them. No one should judge that.

I don't think atheists are immoral or emotionless.
I don't understand their position, because they claim that there is no empirical proof of God's existence. I don't see how you can look at the world, with all its beauty and wonder, and doubt.
BUT...it's also true that many atheists are worthy people in their own right, and I won;t try to prove I'm right if they will grant me the same courtesy. (Actually, I have the same stance on Christians.)

For the record...I am a true believer in the Goddess, and one of my favorite teachings is, "there is NO one, true way."

I appreciate the honesty of your questioning and do not feel threatened by atheists. I'm more concerned about "Christians". I believe Jesus came to show God's love in an impartial way to everyone. I also believe he came to tear down religion in any form. Following Christ is a life of service and kindness, faith and forgiveness, loving those who haven't experienced God's love. It's not anyone's place to judge others. Our job is to be Jesus to people. He came to seek and save the lost ... shouldn't that also be the goal and purpose of those who claim to know him and follow him? Great question. Thanks for asking it.

Monotheism is the belief in ONE GOD. Polytheism is the belief in many gods. Atheism is the belief in no god . ..

of course JESUS IS THE TRUTH.

The Bible says it is the fool who says in their hearts there is no GOD.

I believe the existance of GOD is self-evident or axiomantic. I've demonstrated this is one of my other answers. It is material for a treatise on the subject. But it amounts to the fact that GOD is self-evident by the observation of the natural world.

We believe in the ressurrection of the body. That is we will be bodily raised up, though we will have a new body, a SPIRITual body . .. like the GLORIFIED BODY JESUS had after the ressurrection . .. I think that's what most CHRISTians believe . .. though a purely SPIRITual state of existance would be fine with me as well . .. if i could be with JESUS . .. a new body would be wonderful :) . . . i'll take what JESUS gives me . ..

1 Corinthians 15:35  But some man will say: How do the dead rise again? or with what manner of body shall they come?
36  Senseless man, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die first.
37  And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be; but bare grain, as of wheat, or of some of the rest.
38  But God giveth it a body as he will: and to every seed its proper body.
39  All flesh is not the same flesh: but one is the flesh of men, another of beasts, another of birds, another of fishes.
40  And there are bodies celestial, and bodies terrestrial: but, one is the glory of the celestial, and another of the terrestrial.
41  One is the glory of the sun, another the glory of the moon, and another the glory of the stars. For star differeth from star in glory.
42  So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it shall rise in incorruption.
43  It is sown in dishonour, it shall rise in glory. It is sown in weakness, it shall rise in power.
44  It is sown a natural body, it shall rise a spiritual body. If there be a natural body, there is also a spiritual body, as it is written:

-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

We sit here all day and say that Jesus died for sinners, and that all of us are sinners. What do you think that we think you are?

If condemnation is - "that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." - then what do you think that Christians think about those who reject Jesus?

If Jesus sent his followers into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature, then what do you think those who tell you the good news think that you are?
