Is this a chronic condition or did this just happen?

If it just happened then:

This could be bloat which is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY!

Air/Food/Water gets in the stomach and cannot come out either end and the stomach blows up like a drum. The dog looks anxious, can salivate, can refuse to move.

This is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. Large dogs with deep chests are most prone but other dogs can develop this as well. The stomach can also twist - gastric torsion and volvulus - causing tissue death. This requires surgery and likely tacking the stomach in order to keep it from happening again.

This is FATAL and you need to drive quickly to your nearest emergency vet.

Is this a sudden development? Did she recently run around and play, and then eat and drink while she was still hot? If so, get her to the vet NOW! I mean, the emergency vet's office...don't wait around! That's a sign of a stomach tortion or twisted gut. Is she acting like she's in pain? I hope not. Good luck!

Well it could be several reasons but when my dog had a larger belly and firmer then usually we had the vet check it out and he said he has a tumor in his spleen that will burst, so we had to take it out right away! So just go to your vet they will feel whats going on maybe do some x rays and blood work.

Your dog could have worms. I would suggest taking her to a vet to find out for sure what is wrong with her. If it is worms they will give her a medicine to get rid of the worms. I have also been told that dogs can get worms from having fleas and swallowing them (supposedly the fleas have the worm eggs in them). I don't know if that is true or not, but if it is you vet may recommed using a flea preventative such as Advantage or Frontline. I would definitely take her to the vet to find out what the problem is.

If she has bloat (twisted stomach) you cannot wait until tomorrow morning to have her treated or she will die. You need to go to the emergency vet just to make sure. Large breeds, especially deep chested breeds (Great Danes in particular) are very prone to this.

What breed is she? Is she peeing/pooping normaly? Large dogs sometimes twist their stomach which leads to bloat. This is serious and needs to be seen by a vet immediatly.

Maybe she needs to take care of some doggie business. If she hasn't been going to bathroom she could have a blockage. call vet and get her looked at asap. Not worth risking her life.

If she's acting lethargic or in pain it could be bloat (stomach swells and becomes bloated and twists b/c of usually eating too much at one time- eventually in a short period of time the twisted stomach starts to become necrotic (die off) )

I am no vet but this sounds possibly like bloat which is very dangerous. If it were my dog I would go straight to the vet!
