So I was planning on telling my bf next week that I want to take a break and just casually date for awhile. We've been having problems and I have a ton going on in my life (dad might be going to Iraq, my might have cancer, and some one is using my social security number, and that's just the tip of the ice burg so to speak). Well my bf is just making things harder and he doesn't understand when I need a few hours to myself. He thinks that whenever we aren't working we need to spend every min. together until we go to bed. He thinks I hate him and pouts whenever I want time to myself. Any way he asked me today if I was happy with him cause he thinks I'm not. Anyway should I wait and tell him when I was planning on it (after his b-day) or should I just tell him now since he brought it up?

I have already told him that I do need some time to myself. But whenever I take time to myself he thinks it's because I don't love him and gets pouty and won't leave his house!

Some might say wait until after but either way it is going to be tough. I would tell him now and get it over with. Seems like his insecurity is going to destroy the relationship anyway, no sense in prolonging it. You need support and TLC not someone feeling sorry for himself. If he doesn't understand the need for personal space now he will not comprehend it any better later. Be gentle and just tell it to him like it is, believe me in the long run he will thank you for not dragging it out. Neither one of you will feel any better about it if you wait. In fact chances are he will be more upset with you.

It's really up to you, but for goodness sake do NOT break up with him on his birthday. That is probably the worst time to ever break up, and you'll completely screw him over.
And as for the whole spending too much time thing...maybe you should sit down with him and talk about things, rather than just break it off. It's obvious this guy likes you, he just doesn't understand what you need as well as he'd like. Don't rant or anything, just tell him the straight facts. Trust me, if you're open and honest with him now, it'll do a lot more for you in the long run.

The sooner you tell him, the better things will be. Of course, he'll be bummed about it, but time heals all wounds. You've got a lot on your mind right now; let him know your concerns and if he truly cares about you, he'll understand. Good luck!

He sounds really insecure so you should think about if you want a relationship (w/ someone else) or if you want to plug a dam that is gonna break anyway....

honestly, just do it. your wasting his time and YOURS. i had a boyfriend that was like that. he didnt want me to hang out with ny friends anymore. and it was horrible. he always wanted to see me. and it was annoying. i mean. yeah i liked him. but he was just too clingy, almost controlling. he would always get ticked if i wouldnt hang out with him. ever since i got rid of him or took a break, i met guys that actually care about whats going on in my life.

Just get it over with. You're only going to stress yourself out more by waiting and he's going to react how he's going to react no matter when you do it.
