Pit Bulls do have a tendancy to be DOG aggressive but like every other rule there are exceptions. What people can't seem to understand is that dog aggression and human aggression are NOT the same thing. Just because a dog attacks another dog does not mean the children will be next. They are two completely different things.

No, they are not NATURALLY aggressive.

Aggressive blood lines were bred by aggressive, objectionable people who wanted to fight their dogs for monetary gain. Those dogs were then MADE more aggressive by their aggressive, objectionable owners with sticks and pokers etc.

If you bring up a pit like a loved puppy in a normal household they are no more agressive than other breeds. And I certainly would not buy a dog that is decended from a long line of aggressive fighting champions.

Have you considered an AmStaff? The are the cousin of the Pit and look just exactly like them but are more likely to have been bred from Showring Champs.

No we have a Boxer/Pit Bull mix and she's gentle as a puppy. She won't bother the cats she likes to jump up on people.

no they were once thought of great family pets. but in those days ppl knew how to train and act around dogs....these days....well i think we have dumbed up on animals. a dog is a dog and should be treated like a dog. it is like haveing a 4 yr for 10+ yrs. so they need rules and taught and EXERSIZED! if u have never trained a dog before seeking a trainer is the best think u can do for urself and the dog.

the dogchannel.com will have some breed info.

Please go to the library or PetSmart and get a book on your APBT. I own a 5 month pit puppy and the only thing he will do is lick you to death or accidentaly pop you with his tail. Pits are loyal FAMILY dogs, why else would they let Petey from the Lil Rascals around all those kids.

Buy a book!

What people don't get is aggressiveness is a behavioral trait that is passed down from generation to generation. Their disposition to aggressiveness is all in their genetics and has nothing to do with how they are raised. I've seen perfectly loving pits raised in great homes turn on their masters and children. Unless you know her lines generations back and NONE had showed tendancies towards aggressiveness, keep your eye on her and do not leave her unattended with children of any age.

They are not!! My daughter has three, two females & one male. All inside dogs. The oldest female Zsa-Zsa is 6 years old and has been raised with two girls that are 6 & 4 years old!!!! Never has there been any sign of aggression!!! Pits get a bad rap because of human idiots. Back in the 70's the Dobermans were the bad rapped, viscious & aggressive breed!!! Dogs are what people make them in to be!!!

No. They are actually very loving, smart, loyal and affectionate. They can be protective over their family and property. It is honestly ALL in how they are raised. I have had a few in my life and none were the least bit aggressive...unless someone tries to mess with their family and property. Most dogs are naturally protective over "what's theirs". Raise them properly, train them the right way and love them and you will have one of the best friends you could ever ask for!

Shouldn't you have researched that question BEFORE buying the dog?? I mean what if everyone says ' yes it will kill you ' then what will you do??

Since you have no experience with the breed at all, let me suggest that you get into a good training class and be out there and socializing him every where to anyone and everyone , introducing him to different people, dogs, and situations, noises etc.. All dogs need training and socialization.

If you treat her well, and socialize her well, you'll likely have a fine dog.

Look at all of the breeds that in the past were considered aggressive: Dobermans, German Shepherds, Rottweilers. It's mostly about the owners, rather than the dogs themselves.
