I have a neighbor who does not own a TV or even a raido. She says both are tools of Satan. She only reads christian books and her Bible. She has only Christian CD's and tapes for music. I think she is a little overboard, She is living in a shell.I am a little worried about her. She does not go to Church but she is always studing her books and her Bible Nothing wrong with that but she is so isolated. Am I wrong?

You're right. She is very isolated.

Dear Sweetgal, Please don't worry about your friend; she may the first one to know. And, besides you'll let her know. I too have no cable, dish, antenna, or TV. Well, I do have a small tv, but no service. I am able to watch GETV 24 hours per day, if I choose. As far as TV being a sin, well no, but it can spark temptation which is not good. More than anything it would make mad lol. I would avoid most stuff that I thought wouldn't be suitable for Christians to watch. Keep your friend in your prayers and she'll be just fine. Got to say I envoy her, because she's stronger than me. Looks like I just noticed I'm on my wife's yahoo. I'm Roger Grace. God Bless everyone who stays the course.

Well, the Bible says not to forsake the fellowship, so I would look a little askance at her lack of church attendance. Obviously, the Bible doesn't comment on tv or radio, since they weren't invented then. It does say whatever is lovely, pure, etc., think on these things. However, there are plenty of lovely things not produced directly by Christians. I do listen to Christian tapes and such, because I find if I listen to too much non-Christian stuff curse words and evil ways of thinking can creep into my vocabulary and head, and the Christian stuff helps to keep me in a good attitude. However, I do watch E!News and TRL just so I can keep up on what's popular/cultural literacy and have an intelligent conversation with people. It's hard to share your faith with people if you can't meet them where they're at, like Jesus did. Basically, with all things, moderation is the key. Now if she finds herself susceptible to temptation provided by tv and radio and chooses not to expose herself, that's her business -she has to do what works for her. But tv's and radios in and of themselves are not evil. You just have to decide if you are able to limit what you watch to "the good stuff." There are some Christian programs on tv and radio that have helped a lot of people. People should be careful about not throwing out the baby with the bathwater. (Yes, a cliche, but true!)

There is something wrong there , since the bible says "forsake not the assembly of the saints",meaning that God wants us to meet and worship God together in the sanctuary. Isolation can be bad, because there is no accountability .
The TV and non-Christian music is very bad for your spirit, that's how demons can manifest and we don't even know it,but there is still something cult-like about her behavior.

Personally, I can't see why any Supreme Being would put us here on this big, beautiful orb just to have us live in a cocoon. Is there anything un-Christian about celebrating all the great complexities and colors and facets of... well, all of creation? Of course, as long as she's happy... she's not hurting anyone and if she's a good person, a decent human being, then, well, good for her. It seems a waste to me, but that's me.

Sounds to me like she has some of it right. Nothing wrong with turning the TV off. But isolation isn't doing anyone good, not even her.

Get a Greydon Square CD and turn the volume way up for your neighbor.

Two words.

Fanatic. Paranoid.

If your neighbour is apparenlty obsessed with religion and doesnt have a disability preventing her from attending church from the sounds of things she's not just pious she has problems?

How old is she?

What church does she claim she belongs to?

Do they have an ministry / social service that can encourage her to get out and about more?

Maybe you could ask if you could study with her. It does sound as if she is a bit to isolated. It could be good for her to have a study partner. Something could have happened to her to make her not trusting of other people. Take baby steps with her.
