I don't think people should listen to the Pope. He isn't God.He is not the Creator he is one of the creations. He is just a person. People can find out what God wants for them on there own. Not by what some guy says. I find out be reading the bible and going to a church that goes by what the bible teaches us.

Wait, has history already been forgotten? BTW, it is pope john paul the "2nd". He also was a proponent of Poland at a time when that country was in dire straights. Normal people at that time were against communism. The current pope: pope benedict (the 16th), is no better than any of the previous by saying that all that don't believe as him may be good, but thay aren't getting to heaven. Typical religious guilt tactics.

The new pope is more of the same. John Paul was not kind, compassionate nor understanding. John Paul ignored the pedophiles in his organization, combated education efforts that would have reduced HIV rates in the world and helped block research into steam cells that have the potential to help bring cures to millions.

He is not a hatefull man but rather a very hard right conservative. However, he does appear to be still influenced by his past with the Nazis. He is insensitive and a militarist he has also said some things that are harsh and injurious to folks who do not agree with his own ideas and/ or beliefs. He also seems to be a reactionary to liberal schools of thought.

Is this about the recent document? Do you realize that it merely reiterates what was said in Dominus Iesus, a 2000 document approved by JPII?

>>Why did the Vatican go from him to a former Nazi?<<
B16 is not a "former Nazi". He was forced into the Hitler youth against his will when he was about 14. It was compulsory.

If he was so "holy" he should have defected instead of joining the Nazis. But anti-Semitism has always run deep in Catholicism, ask Mel Gibson, or the pope during WW2 that helped Nazis escape war crimes in Europe.

Simon,
That is a very unkind thing to say about someone that you don't know at all. Pope Benedict XVI was elected by the Cardinals of the Church. He must have shown some semblance of peace and love, he must have been loving and fervent in his beliefs. These must have been evident over the years. His love of God is obvious as is his humility.

He's not hateful. The article says that the same document was made in 2,000 when Pope John Paul II was pope. Also, Benedict was never a Nazi. He was a young boy, who, like all the young boys and girls in Germany, was forced to be in the Hitler Youth. But, Benedict never showed up for the meetings, he was studying to be a priest. God bless, I'm sure you won't think he's hateful. :-)
You were just told differently.

Well, you're speaking of a person's image. You cannot really know a person from witnessing something inside a box. It's the same deal with the Dalai Lama. People have come to listen to his views and turn into what THEY WANT HIM TO BE. NOT what he is.
