The heater core answers are correct. However, it is also possible, since coolant spewed all over the place, that some got into the ductwork of your heating/AC system. Those little slotted vents you see right below your windshield is where the air system gets its fresh air. If there is coolant spilled in there, it's going to smell until the coolant evaporates on its own.

Taking the system to clean it out is an ungodly complicated process. You would have to dismantle most of everything under the instrument panel. Keep an eye on your coolant level. If it does not go down, you don't have a leak.

On most cars that have air conditioning they have 2 heater cores either inside the car under the dash. One is to operate the air conditioning system and the other operates your heater to recerculate the anti freeze into and out of the heater core to transfer heat. And knowing that you own a jeep like my but older, jeeps have 2 cores under the dash.

When you overheated the engine, you may have ruined the heater core and now it is leaking. Get it fixed. You don't want to breathe all that fluid for years, plus always have the radiator running low on fluid. Good luck.

antifreeze is persistant and may have gottin in a pocket on the engine or transmission and when you get the vehicle hot,the a/c picks up the smell.or it could be a heater core.if you keep losing coolant, that may be the problem.
