Our book of shadows is a place to write our spells, rituals, anything pertaining to our craft.
It also acts like a journal.

You can buy copies of peoples books, but your book of shadows can be found within you.

Uhm, honestly... you won't get a single helpful answer on here. There are no "real" or "fake" books of spells. They are all the same.. and whether or not there are "witches" who can practice witchcraft in this world... I guess we'll just never know. But if for some reason you were, I don't think it would matter what book you got. And if you were, you should already know, you wouldn't need to ask yahoo! answers. Let me make it easy for you... you won't get any help on here. Unless your talking Wicca... that is a nature-based religion in which they practice witchcraft as a sacred ceremony. If you're talking about that... then you'll have to do more research and find where to get their scriptures and such.

Merry Met...

A 'real' Book of Shadows or Grimoire is handed down from Teacher to Student, (or from Master to Apprentice), or is created by ones own experiences in practicing the Craft.....

There are many "so-called" books of shadows" online however a true book of shadows contained the Rites, Rituals, Spells and Magickal Workings that HAVE BEEN PERFORMED, by a solitary magickal practitioner..................or that are in use by a particular Coven in their Particular Tradition.

Traditionally one of the steps in first degree initiation in a coven is to hand copy the Coven's Book Of Shadows, this allows the student to begin to memorise and learn about the teachings of that particular order.......

In an Eclectic Coven (such as the one I run) you are required to begin to create your own Rites and Ritual for the Sabbats and Esbats by studying the High Priestess's BOS and the Other Members of the Coven's BOS - this encourages a deeper understanding of the Rites and Rituals performed, the meanings behind those, and the requirements in creating a Magickal Working.
You are also required to begin recording your Magickal Workings (spells, making of amultes etc), to record your dreams, to record your phases (as women we hold separate rituals for Blood Moon Rituals) etc all this information is kept in one's own personal BOS

If you are interested in learning more about the Craft (either Wicca or some other form of Pagan practice) I suggest you join an online Coven or learning group such as my yahoo group
Bunbury_Pagan_Network@yahoogroups.com.au
or contact a Coven direct (you can find listings of your local groups on Witchvox...... or Ill be happy to answer any of your questions direct :
(email me at bray_bradshaw@yahoo.com.au)

Just a note: if you are going to contact a Coven direct I suggest you go to a Pagan Moot such as Pagan in the Pub, or a festival, or even just ask around online about the groups reputation as unfortunately there are charlatans out there who are just interested in taking your money, for nothing in return (a GOOD group will charge nothing or only a small fee to cover basic costs)

Good luck, Bright Blessings!

The title of "Book of Shadows" is generic even though it sounds like an individual book. It refers to any book/journal that wiccans wrote their spells within.

Part of pursuing your spiritual path is to develop your own book of shadows, a record of rituals, spells, poetry, music, etc. that you find helpful and/or spiritually enriching. You can read other people's traditions in hundreds of books, but the best for you will be the one you develop yourself. :)

You can certainly find people willing to take your money.

But if you want a real Book of Shadows, you must yourself walk berween the Worlds and find it for yourself.

A "Book of Shadows" is a witch's spellbook. There are published books, but most experienced witches write their own.
