The latest I read on this problem is to turn and ignore the dog, do not look or speak to her when approaching, but u should have started training her much sooner. If that theory doesn`t work, dog obedience classes should do the trick. There r also many sites on the Internet that give helpful tips on dog training, just do a search on dog training or dog obedience. Good luck. I love labs.

Yes, you can train the dog. Go read the book "Marley and me." Labs don't start to calm down until they are 2.5 - 3 years old. But you have two different issues: Energy and Jumping.
Energy:
Walk her twice a day for 30 min. and that will help the energy issues.
Jumping:
Your lab has just grown up and is like a 20 year old high school athlete that just went off to college. All energy, so you have to burn off that energy.
1. Walk her or jog with her for 30 minutes in the morning and first thing when you get home from work.
2. Take her to obedience class to get some advice, but don't use harsh methods.
3. Teach kids to be gentle with her. An 8 year old may be a little rough, but the Lab will escalate, so kids need to learn to be gentle all the time... so that they don't encourage roughness.
4. Teach her to sit on command all the time !
A. Get some cheap, cooked hotdogs or liver treats.
B. cut them into tiny pieces, one fourth the size of a dime.
All you want is a taste, not a snack.
C. Take her some place like the kitchen, with no people and no distractions, then just stand there until she gets bored and starts to sit. When she sits, butt on ground, say "sit" and give her the treat. (She will bounce around... but you'll learn )
D. Do this for about ten minutes, twice a day, after the walk.
E. She can learn this in about a week... but she will only understand in the kitchen. You will have to generalize.
F. Take her into another room and repeat the process. It should only take about two days.
G. Take her outside and repeat. And go other places.
H. Start over, and give her the treat at random times. Don't do every other time or every third time... because she can count (up to five !) and will expect to get a treat no that regular basis.
I. After a few weeks of practice, she should sit when you say.
Now, when she is about to jump, and before she jumps, say 'sit', and give her a treat... if she doesn't jump.
Also, tell people to turn their side or turn their back when she jumps, and that is a Calming Signal (Turid Rugaas) that tells the dog not to jump.
But the main point is exercise the dog to burn off energy and to get her tired. Then couple it with training.

does she know "sit"? and "down" and "stay"?
this is a training issue. labs are considered "puppies" until they are 2, but she's getting to the age where you can start to demand better behaviour.
make sure that she knows those commands, and learns to obey them instantly. the next time she jumps, you say, "no, sit (or down) and stay". a well-behaved dog should hold the "stay" until released. this is going to take a lot of practice, and you have to do it every time. and if she is released from "stay", and starts jumping again, then you put her right back into it. eventually she will probably learn what you expect from her.
one of my neighbours trained her lab pup by kicking it in the butt all the time, but this brutality is not a method I recommend.

it is not at all to early or to overdue to coach a dogs. besides the undeniable fact that, the later you wait the extra hurdles you are going to bump into by fact the dogs has gotten used to a undeniable development of habit. endurance is fundamental. you may desire to be certain that leaping isn't solid. each and every time she jumps up on you or somebody else that person desires to softly yet furmly knee her interior the chest so she gets down, and say AH AH, then shy away and forget approximately approximately her. After a whilst she would be able to get the belief, and you will then bypass directly to the 2nd section. you like to furnish her a various thank you to get interest by fact which you're removing the only way she is acquainted with how. it is suitable to coach her to sit down down for interest. i began out early with my Shepherd mixture. He enjoyed to bounce on human beings, yet i does not permit him. i could at present knock him away, say ah ah, and forget approximately approximately him for some seconds. i could then turn around, and tell him to sit down down. as quickly as he grew to become into sitting, i could compliment him and extravagant interest on him in a comfortable yet chuffed voice. the significant with hyper dogs is to keep away from the extreme squeaky voice by fact this basically produces excitement, and could make your already hyper dogs much extra loopy. for each habit you like to change, you may desire to provide her a replace habit that she is authorized to do. You not at all prefer to tell a dogs NO, NO, NO by fact they're going to think of, "properly gee, what am i able to do?" and doubtless get into problem via attempting to parent issues out on their very own. For mouthing, do the comparable as above, basically provide her a chew toy, and compliment her for chewing that as a replace of your arms and palms. i desire this helps, and if it gets too dificult so which you will do on your guy or woman, you are able to continuously touch a expert coach that can assist you you on your dogs habit amendment.
