I look at it this way...If one dwells on the emotion of regret, one robs himself of the present...If one ignores the emotion of regret, one robs himself of the future.

It can be but it doesn't have to be. Sitting around wishing you could change the past is a waste of time...it ain't gonna happen (unless you know how to invent a time machine???). On the other hand, regret is a natural feeling that results when we realize that we didn't make the right decision...if we use that feeling to identify the problem and to motivate us to make amends or to avoid the problem next time then that regret is not at all wasted!
Of course, it would be important to put away your regrets once you've learned what you need to learn and done what you need to do to make amends for a past mistake!

My old man told me, any emotion you feel is worth feeling and is felt for a reason. Without regret you can not learn from your mistakes. however, it is one thing to have regret for something you did wrong, its another to regret something you did fun. You only live once so enjoy life and don't regret anything. Unless you really did something wrong.

I would say regret is connected to guilt, and most certainly is a waste of time, as Bonsai Bobby said, it robs you of present moment awareness, keeps you locked to the past.. The Now is always New, be here now and intend for future possibilities you hope to manifest.........
Peace

no I dont think so. Its true you cant go back and redo a lot of things but if you regret what you did it should make you reset your course to not do that again and do what you can to improve where you are headed.
When King David and Bathseba sinned against God they couldnt go back and fix what they had done. But after they had repented God blessed them with a son who was a Greater King than David and became the lineage to the birth of Christ

No way, it teaches you a lesson to not pass up opportunities in the future. It's like touching something hot...shows you how much you don't want to do that again.
