This question was directed at women who actually PRACTICE islam... not those who know nothing about ISLAM. So those who answered in the most ignorant of ways... GO READ A REAL BOOK... not just the fake ones with lots of pictures inside and very little information. I am a Muslim women and half of what was said by those answering is stupid crap. Islam gives women more rights than most other religions did when they were first created. Culture intervened, however, creating the common stereotype that Muslim women are abused and oppressed. Wow... Oppressed.. thats been the buzz word since the US invaded Afghanistan and got rid of the Taliban... Extremism has nothing to do with Islam. I wear the Hijab... even though my parents didnt want me to. I am equal to my husband. And I will be among the first to enter heaven simply because i AM a woman. God tells Muslims that heaven is at the feet of your Mothers. The only affects that Islam has on me is when I get hounded in my own country (Australia) by racist people. Other than that I love this religion and I am proud to be a part of it. To everyone else. Get your facts right. Peace and Love

ok yeah ima muslim. The thing is: I think that muslim women dont really have much freedom. You cant talk to guys, you have to cover your head. Every small thing a muslim girl does is taken seriously and becomes SCANDELOUS. I mean I still go by the muslim rules but its just that I mean guys just OMG seem to have more freedom. ok i just cant explain it. I sometimes feel trapped being a muslim because I see al these other people out there and they do all this stuff and it just makes me depressed that Ill never be able to do that. Islam just totally rules my life. My parents are suspicious of me just cause this dude called before. He called me for this project for our exam that was like 20 percent of my grade and I was forced to give him my phone number.
BASICALLY i think that muslim women have less freedom than men. I also think that Islam rules people's lives.

I am porud of being a MUSLIM WOMAN is the best answer becasue no matter what any muslim woman would say about islam and how it treats her ,will give islam its proper way of treating ,but saying i am proud of being a muslim woman will give you a BIG indication on how she is treated in islam in all her life parts
and no one say i am proud of something until he/she feels that he is satisfied emotionally knowing that the woman as a creation isssssssssss emotional !!!!!

Muslim are to be respected and held in high regard, especially by the men in their lives. They are to be loved, honored and respected, never hurt or abused in any way. The Qur'an is very specific about how a man should treat women, especially his wife and his mother. Any Muslim man who does not follow this is not practicing is religion well at all.

Islam teaches that women are the human, social, intellectual, and spiritual equals of men. Women are not subservient to men. Neither are women the property of men. Women are individuals, persons, and above all, believers in Almighty God in their own right.

Women in Islam are respected and we do not exploit them the way they are in western and secular socities around the world. If anyone tells u that Islam oppreses women and stuff; either he likes stereotyping, plain ignorant or visiting to much anti-Islam websites.

I am a American Muslim woman revert. In Islam women are diamonds and gold according to the Qur'an. Men and women both dress modestly so as not to appear like sex objects because ALLAH(SWT) didn't want that. In Islam mothers are especially honored. Women are equal to men and have rights that are appropriate for them. In Islam a woman has the right to work, has the right to choose her own husband, has the right to a divorce, has the right to a dowry(marriage gift), keeps her last name in marriage out of respect for her family lineage, can keep any money she earns and can spend it as she likes, has the right to sexual satisfaction from her husband, does not have to pray or fast on her period, has the right to not take care of the house, has the right to vote. Mothers are especially honored in Islam. In Islam we are taught that Jinnah(heaven) is under the feet of the mother and that if the child does something that the mother doesn't like and the mother doesn't forgive the child then the child can't get into Jinnah even if it prayed and did everything else it was required to do. In Islam women cover because ALLAH(SWT) told them to do so in the Qur'an and there is a strong Hadith(sayings of Muhammad Peace be upon him) that say all believing Muslim women must cover everything except the eyes so as to be seen as virtuous, chaste, and believing women and not be annoyed. However many Muslim women choose to not follow the Hadiths and obey them. In Islam men regard a woman's beauty so pure that she shouldn't show it off to any one except her father, husband, sons, or brothers. The reason a woman can not go outside alone is because she might be tempted to cheat on her husband or she might get kidnapped, raped or killed if she were outside alone and because she needs protection from herself and from the world because women can't really protect themselves so that is why they require one of their mahrams(male Gaurdians) to go with them if they wish to go outside. In Islam a girl is an adult as soon as she gets her first period and from then on has to draw the niqab(face veil) over her face when she goes outside. Prophet Muhammad(PBUH*) stopped the burying alive of infant girls and gave women the right to vote and all their other rights over 1400 years ago while the West was struggling in the Dark Ages. Women didn't get the right to vote in the USA until the 1920s. Women are treated like queens in Islam and the daughters are treated like princesses. In Islam if a woman is standing in a line at the grocery store or the bank the men allow the women to go first so she doesn't have to wait in a long line and the men don't complain about it at all. The hijab, Abaya and niqab liberate the women and free them from having to look good for strange men and other women and keep them from getting raped. It does not hinder the women and allows her to have the freedoms she enjoys and allows her to be resepected for her mind and not her body. In Islam if you have a diamond(women) then naturally you want to keep it safe and not let it break or anything bad happen to it. Alhamdullilah I am proud to be a Muslim woman.

Quotes by Prophet Mohammad Himself:
"God enjoins you to treat women well, for they are your mothers, daughters, aunts.”
“Shall I not point out to you the best of virtues? It is your doing good to your daughter when she is returned to you having been divorced by her husband.”
“Whoever doeth good to girls, it will be a curtain to him from hell-fire.”
“Women are the twin halves of men.”
“A virtuous wife is a man's best treasure.”
“He is the most perfect Muslim whose disposition is best; and the best of you are they who behave best to their wives.”
