As for how many times it could destroy the world, I think it would depend on the weather, and the place where the weapon(s) were used. With careful placement, we might be able to destroy the world rather economically, using just a few dozen weapons, and letting the radiation and climate effects augment the damage. If you're just out to eliminate all life, then maybe bacterial weapons would be cheaper.

The so-call stash of Atomic bombs by the USA was used during the Cold War as a "threat deterrant". It still is. It keeps the "others" guessing and going broke and ruining their economies just trying to catch up. That's what happened to Russia. I don't believe the government is ready to disclose that information just yet. If I knew, I wouldn't tell either. What would you do with the information?

the U.S has about 9,500 nukes compared to 32,000 in 1962, and russia has about 16,000 compared to 45,000 in 1984.
1 nuke can destroy 10 blocks. Do the math..
GWB also signed a bill a few weeks ago that would cut them down even more, but make the rest even more powerful ones. (nuke upgrade)
