I simply cannot believe how poorly native English speakers use their own language on this site. It's a disgrace!
"You are" is NOT "your" as a contraction! It's "you're"! Aaarrgh!!
You people look like absolute idiots when you write it like that.
"Sort of" is NOT "sortive". "Sortive" is not even a word!
"I don't know" is not "ardno". Morons!
"They are" isn't "There" or even "Their" it's "They're"!!
I can understand it if you aren't a native English speaker but most of the people making these mistakes ARE native English speakers. Those of you reading this who know what I'm talking about can relate. How can you not know the most basic parts of your own language? You are like bus drivers who don't know where the stops are, or painters who can't open a can of paint.
It's pathetic. From now on I'm only going to answer questions that are in proper English.
Doesn't this bother anyone else??

I love how a lot of you answer with something like, "Why don't you find something else to be mad about?" Well, DUH! The whole point is that it makes ME mad and that's all that matters you jacka$$es!!

I don't care who you are or what you say, if you are a native English speaker and you can't find the time to learn the basic verb to be in the English language, then you are a MORON!

Thank you, you're totally right. I'm not a native English speaker but I know how to spell in English...as well as in my own language...It's not just that those people can't spell, some of them also seem to have never heard of punctuation which makes it hard sometimes to understand what they are talking about or what the question is.

In N Z you no doubt have a couple of expressions which aren't heard in different places, now not even in Australia. I am southern English, however was once in Oz for 3 years within the early Seventies. Visited N Z round Auckland for a couple of hours at the means house from Oz through sea. But then, what's "English" English or British English? As a long way as I am worried the North (of England) is one more nation for language!

Look pal, yes I am sometimes annoyed by this also. However, I understand that the age of the computer and text messaging cell phones has created a sort of crude, short handed way of writing things. Why don't you go pick on some other language, like the Spanish "k" instead of "que"; and what of Egyptian Arabic, which does not have a formal system of writing, adapting rather their own colloquial spoken language into a written form when used informally.
On the other hand, yes, I am bothered (er, ashamed, really) that people (especially fellow Americans) post questions or answers that are properly written, especially in the Languages category, because it makes all Americans look stupid. So, I say to you (and all who read this), that not all Americans are to stupid to write proper English, and not all who do not write proper English are too stupid to do so; they probably just do it for convenience' sake, or they just don't care.

I've already wondered why all of a sudden people confuse "their" and "they're"...Haven't seen that about five years ago, it's a pretty new trend.
I'm not a native speaker, and I've never had any problems keeping "your" and "you're" apart, but lately I start to make these mistakes as well, just because I see it so often - the mind simply gets used to it.
I don't want to seem to be arrogant, but by now, I'm convinced that most school classes in Germany, Belgium, Sweden etc. could beat their american counterparts in an ENGLISH test.

You forgot this one: "should of" instead of "should have". Yes, and like some other answerers here, I'm not a native speaker. I guess it's just a question of how much you care and most people don't. They don't care if they spell things right or not, and they didn't care to learn in the first place. Too bad for them.

That is because this is a very informal website.
Most native English-speakers actually DO know that they're using incorrect grammar when they write, but it doesn't matter to them for arguable reasons.
I'm sure the same thing occurs in your native language.

Thank God, someone that gets as annoyed by this as I do!!
And then there are those people that are annoyed by me, because apparently I need to lighten up about this. =)
...Hmm... maybe it's because I'm a teenager, but almost everyone I know finds it strange that I'm bothered by poor grammar & spelling. I can understand typing errors and the occasional misspelled word, and I agree with people that say that getting their message(s) across is more important than using perfect grammar, but someone using the wrong word when he or she knows what should be used is just stupid.
Though, oddly enough, some IM slang (the abbreviations, mostly) doesn't bother me: idk, lol, nm, ... etc.

You are kidding me? You are making a rant about native-English speakers while trying to make yourself appear as if you were being constructive. All I hear is "wah wah wah" ...
What bothers me is how people can criticize another person for their typing abilities. Does it bother you THAT MUCH to see somebody typing "your" instead of "you're"? If it does, than I advise you to go to another site, or better yet, create your own where you demand people to "properly" express themselves in their own language.
As long as I can speak this language, I will make as many mistakes as I desire.... just as long as my message is received and understood.
U got it, boi?
And by the way, as a person who properly types the language for your reading pleasure, I can tell you I don´t have a problem with how other native English speakers type on here. So why the h- should you or anybody else?
I´m waiting for some more negative ratings. ;) People can criticize us, but obviously they can´t take the dish themselves. You would think because I wrote this response without any grammatical errors nobody would have a problem with it. APPARENTLY NOT. :D

Well, I noticed something like that shortly after I arrived here. I was EXTREMELY surprised to see that native ( I don't mean Indians ) english speakers asked ME, THE FOREIGNER, how to say something in their own language. I couldn't believe it.
A professor of mine, graduate from Harvard university, was commissioned by Harvard to interview several other graduates and see their development in life. One of them, President of a corporation, told my professor: "Do you know how many people in this company know how to write a letter in english ? "
"The secretary and myself, because not even the vice presidents can do it."
Do I need to go on ?

English is my second language and I think I have most of the rules down. My contractions are correct, but I like typing in IM slang like 'idk' and those abbreviations because it's a lot quicker and easier when you're talking to other people.
