I realize that the New Testament is all about selling your soul to Jesus, so I'm not really talking about that.

BUT, why do people that oppose the Bible always completely and totally ignore the obvious moral of the story "Evil will Kill us all, but Good would save us all" and focus on the outlandish stuff like miracles and GOD and stuff? Morality, compassion, higene, and other safe practices are good. Being an evil swine is bad. What more do you want?

By focusing on the 'miraculous' events and whining about how they aren't true, we do the Bible a great disservice. By focusing on the handfull of times when some 'holy' guy says 'KILL THAT HOOKER!'. We make it seem as though that was GOD's idea. Well it wasn't. It was a desparate idea thought up by some destarate man. Just like capital punishment.

Consider the possibility that all of those guys that did that evil crap were wrong. Consider the possibility that that was the whole point of that chapter. Then you might understand.

The Bible doesn't teach very good morals. And the few things it teaches that happen to be good are just common sense things that society has come to know anyways.

Instead of blindly following old books, it is much better to actually use your brain and think for yourself. Then you'll do right for the right reasons and won't as easily fall prey to people pushing ideologies on you.

As far as books on ethics go, the bible is primitive and inferior. I'm actually glad that the bible is obviously untrue. Imagine if the bible was written well enough to fool even our more intelligent thinkers; we may never have progressed beyond the sophistication of the bible!
