Common laws? Well, if you aren't married.......then you aren't committed. You can leave at any time. If you want to be committed to your significant other, marry him/her. THEN worry about the INLAWS

You grow up and realize that when you take on a relationship, you take on the relatives.

And any woman that expects a man to put the latest girlfriend above the kids is a twisted person.

Act like an adult. Move on and find someone that suits you, rather than being the stereotypical woman who meets a man and decides she's going to change him.

You put on your polite face and make nice. It's either that or call it quits. After all they ARE his/her kids and family members. What, do you want them to choose?

(By the way, authentic "common law" marriages are just as binding as legal marriages. You can't just walk out; you have to get a divorce just as if you were married legally. But this doesn't apply if, rather than common law, you actually are just "shacking up.")

You obviously have reasons why you never made the real commitment. You can't expect them to all change for you, or for the other person to leave their entire family! Move on...quit being selfish and wasting your time and theirs!
