How do I contact the credit reporting agencies?

Did you send the letter by certified mail/return receipt? If not, you need to do it all over again. The collection agency will certainly deny they ever received it.

If you did, then look at the link below. It has a flowchart with instructions on what you need to do.

Your next step is to send a second letter to the collection agency (see the second link below). This just makes sure they got it and don't have any excuse for not responding. Also send a copy of the first letter, along with a dispute letter to the credit bureau demanding that they delete the entry from your credit report, based on "lack of validation". If they don't respond, add them to your lawsuit.

Which ever credit reporting agency is showing this collection would be the one to contact. I would call them and let them know you want to dispute an item on your credit report if this is the case. They will send you the documents that you will need to fill out and return. They will then do their own investigation and if no response from the collection agency the item will be removed.

A collection agency is not required to respond to you in any certain amount of time. They are, however, required to cease all collection efforts until the debt has been validated. Only in TX is the agency required to atleast notify you back within 30 days of receiving your dispute, and they can simply state in the letter they need more time.

There should be a phone number on the letter/s that they sent you. Call them up and see what needs to be done.
