I know of many different ways of doing this but which way do you think is the best FREE way. ( i have Windows xp install disks laying around too.)

the best way is load xp on them with them attached to the machine they will be used on .. otherwise they will have the incorrect drivers ... the best way to put them to use imo is get 2.5" external usb enclosures .. now THATS cool ...

You may very well have an old computer lying around, but the fact of the matter the disc's you have for XP are for the installation on ONE computer, unless you purchased a multable licensed version.
So it in fact it is illegle to download it on more than one computer.
And another side note if the copy you have was from one of the many computer makers such as dell, hp acre, or any of the others it is for that machine and will probably cause you problems with all the other added junk they put on the disc.
