Do NOT get a blood test. To detect a case of food poisoning, you should do a STOOL culture.
As far as food poisonings are concerned, bloody stools are common with Campylobacter, Shigella and E. coli O157:H7 infection.
These three bacteria are easy to detect with a STOOL CULTURE. Also, please note if there are any fevers, vomiting and nausea.
In general, you should see a doctor if your stools are bloody. It could signal infection, hemmorhoids or colon problems (including cancer!). But lord knows, renal failure and diabetes can cause similar problems as well.

there are so many poisons and symptoms I would go with your gut feeling and let someone know, like the mother's doctor or attorney or somebody. If you are wrong, then your sister in law will be pissed off at you, but if you are RIGHT, you will have saved a lady's life and many months of suffering!

Disease itself may cause this. If there is food poisoning, depending on the poison used there will be more symptoms & signs. If you suspects this, you may bring her to your home tactfully. Otherwise it is difficult to deal and with other health problems she will not be able to cope up with further assault.
Good luck!

You should not look for any signs. You should take her to her physician and tell the physician what you suspect. Her physician has access to her medical records and will be able to evaluate her symptoms and take any necessary action.
