We're regulars in "Religion and Sprituality." A few times an hour, the question is asked "Why do Atheists and Agnostics come here?" and we got so tired of answering it, we came up with a standard answer "Because when we asked questions about god in "Cats", they told us to leave."

Well...we've asked a few questions about god here and you've been witty and kind, maybe a little puzzled, but...you haven't told us to leave! It was a very nice surprise, so big kitty hugs to you all. You're much kinder than many of the Christians we've run across.

And to make sure this is a question, do you think cat owners are just nicer than average?

Oh, man CAT PEOPLE ROCK! lol

Laptops on my contact list, and I had to check out what she was doing in cats because I know about Pascal's wager...that question that's asked repeatedly that she's referring too.

I find that rather than laughing at the antics of my zany friends, I'm so touched by your humanity. You know, they say that animal lovers are the most enlightened. A little spiritual jargon for ya'all.

((((kitty hugs))))) from me too,....as I'm just passing through.

This is a "leading the witness" question. I think cat owners are often more rude and selfish than "average people". Whatever average is supposed to be. I'm not talking everyone who owns a cat, but ones who don't make their cat behave around guests, ones who let their cat roam without consideration to neighbors, ones who get on forums like this and tell people with allergies that they should suffer for the sake of a cat. And so on. If dog owners act in a similar way, then they're rude too.

BTW, this nonsense about Christians is just that. I've known plenty of church goers in my life that own cats. The term "Christian" does not have a universal definition that everyone knows exactly what it means anyway.

I believe that owning a dog has made me a nicer person. I do not and will not ever own a cat. As I am allergic to both dogs and cats, it's hard to have my dogs in the house, but I try to as much as possible. I won't get rid of them though, I didn't find out I was allergic to them until well after I had them, so they are a HUGE part of our family. I just try to vacuum often.

I believe everyone has the capacity to be nice, no matter what they own, don't own, or wish to own. I just wish everyone realized it.

i think anyone who owns pets are nice people. after all, we do have to spend all that time, money, and tender loving care with our precious babies, right? i own 6 cats. they are so unique and different! they crawl up to me at night and snuggle around just so they can be with me. my only option is to return the love right back!

i can see where you are coming from when you said that pet people are nicer than some Christians. i was told that i wouldn't end up in heaven because i don't go to church, yet i make straight A's in school, help animals, and want to be a vet and try to help the world. that kinda upset me a little, but it's no reason to dislike people who go to church.

I am glad that you think pet people are really nice. it is all the love we have for our pets swelling up so much that it bubbles over. best wishes to you! : - )

I love cats, have had many over the years, and I think of myself as pretty nice. I also love dogs. I must say, however, that I've met my share of cat-lovers who were really awful human beings. So, no, just because a person likes cats doesn't mean that they are "nicer" than any other person, all things being equal.

I think so! We seem to have more patience... must be because our kitties are always getting into trouble. My little black one certainly, anyway!

I wouldn't mind if you posed questions about other subjects over here, esp if the people you run across in those topics were bullies. I have to get out of religion and spirituality every now and then myself... oh, and politics.

There's only so many times you see liberals bashing conservatives and vice versa before you get bored.

Will have to look for your religion questions now.

I think pet owners are nicer people than average.

People sometimes get a little too serious on the topic of religion and forget that God gave us laughter and a sense of humor as a gift. Pets remind us about humor every day.

i have a cat and i'm an asshole! well it's not really my cat, it just decided to live with me, claw my furniture and demand food, as they do. so maybe i don't count as a cat owner.
i have learned that you do not own a cat, they own you. this ungrateful little beast will not do cute things on demand or sit with me while i watch scary movies but it expects to be fed every day and be allowed full access to my apartment including using my nice new sofa as a scratch post.

wow, i can rant on any forum! the boards are my oyster.

Whenever I stray over to the biology section, I'm always disappointed to find that the only people over there are students who don't want to do ANY of their own homework.

Could I maybe get a group to go over there and ask some R. and S. questions?

they do say that cats lower blood pressure and relieve stress - how could they not? all cuddly and the soothing PURRRRRRR!

i'd say pet owners in general may be a little more friendly, and besides, if you own pets, too - that gives you a common bond, especially when you're talking about them.
