When she goes into labor she will begin nesting or digging at areas where she is thinking of having puppies. At this time lead her to her whelping box. She will shiver like she's cold and panting heavily. The Shivering and panting means she's having contractions. Her water will break and the fluid will be a sage green and yellow. After her water breaks you can expect to see the first puppy within 2 hours. Minutes before she delivers her first puppy she will act like she needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. She may get into the pooping position. The puppies after that will come about every 30 minutes to an hour and a half. If she goes too long without giving birth (More than 4 hours passes) take her to your vet. If your dog delivers the sack first with no puppy take her to the vet. Your dog may scream her head off in pain whenever a puppy is coming out. My dog did that. It was the scariest thing I've ever witnessed.

Check out this website. It will tell you in more detail what to expect during the birthing.

there are a few generaql rules like they may not eat the day they will deliver.
They will start to produce milk a week before delivering but these are not always true.
The main thing is seh will begin panitng and digging ( nesting).
the best way is to take her temp and if it's below 99 then she should deliver in about 12 hours.
This is a Good time to pick a place you want her to have the pups as this is very messy.
I would shave her belly and her rectum, vagina and partially down her legs this is easier so the pups don't get tangled in the hair and it makes it easier for them to nurse.
I use newpapers and they can be changed between pups.
no way of sayng how long it will take ( labor will be) just like poeple it differs widely.
Good luck

She should get the dog fixed as soon as the puppies are born, she obviously knows nothing about breeding dogs because if she did she would know that the pet population is out of control and for god sake if she don't know when the dog goes into labor how can she expect her dog to know what to do? Instinct? doubtful. Do you rely on instinct when you have children? Or would you want a doctor that would have to ask questions about you going into labor on Y!A? I think not! Tell your mom to get a clue and that allowing toy breeds to have sex is against their nature and should be considered cruel!

PS just kidding, I just wanted to fit in - you have 2 good answers to that already ( and not the stupid 2, the 2 that actually answered your question)
