I was reading up on Bichon's and one of the things they say was dog food was economical but not necessarily tasty...what are some good options? And with all of the bad press on canned dog food I'm hesitant to just give him anything...any suggestions...cause he seems to really only eat the dog food when there's nothing else around and my family isn't giving him table food..

Just get a good dry food and stick with it. Dogs are dumb but not so dumb as to go on a hunger strike that will jeopardize their health.

Buy cheap cuts of meat for him. You must have spent a lot on buying the dog, so a little bit extra for nice food is the only logical thing to do.

He will eat dry food if there is no other option, but it's going to be very boring for him to eat that cr@p every day for the rest of his life!

I am not a great fan of canned dog food. I generally keep a few cans on hand in case I run low on dry food, or one of the dogs feel bad and are off their appetite.

With a little fellow like a Bichon, I'd probably go ahead and spring for one of the top of the line dry foods like IAMS, or Science Diet.

Just go for a high-quality dry food like Innova or Canidae, dogs aren't picky that picky.
(And to the guy who posted above that said 'top-of-the-line products such as IAMS or Science Diet', I sincerely hope you're kidding. Compare the ingredients to an actual good food.)

PWNED!

Dogs don't have taste buds like we do. Their sense of taste is not as strong as humans. Most canned food is nothing but the dry food wet. In buying canned food you are basically paying for water.
