I get comments on my shoes all the time. They aren't new, but they are a popular brand that are unique and expensive. People hear a lot of news about them and have questions. I don't think "oh no, they aren't polished" I smile and say, "Oh thanks for asking, they are great! I recommend them and think they are worth every penny!" So go ahead, tell her how cute those shoes are and ask her where she got them. Compliments are always welcome, just like late birthday wishes.

Well, you could say you have just noticed how cute her shoes are but before you do, make sure that her shoes are only old but not torn or scratched because that would not be nice. It is like calling her attention to the fact that they need to be replaced.

Why would it embarass her. Everyone loves to get compliments. If you think the shoes are cute tell her. You will make her day.

I didn't realize people thought that you could only compliment someone on something that was new...I think that is totally silly...if you think her shoes are cute say so, it might totally make her day! Don't worry about what other people think, do what you want!

I don't see anything wrong with saying that you like her shoes. It may be the first time that you had seen her wearing them, and, as one of the others has already said, she may have been having a bad day and that just might cheer her up.

No you wouldn't embarrass her... I compliment people shoes everyday and they are like thanks but they are so old... I tell them so what they still look nice...

When I went to my ex-b/f graduation party 3 years ago, his grandmother loved my shoes because they were so WHITE AND CLEAN!!! Don't ask, I guess some senior citizens are amazed by how the few percentage of kids kept their shoes clean...

ooh no. tell her she has cute shoes. tis always good to tell someone something nice! it NEVER hurts. think about it. if someone takes the time from their very busy life to tell you something nice, it is a very wonderful compliment! do you realize how easy it is to just say nothing? think of the smile she will have when you tell her something nice! if you like them, tell her. a thing does not have to be new to compliment it!

Tell her you like her shoes - it's even a better compliment since they're not new.

I didn't know you could only compliment someone on new clothing or accessories.
Why do you think so?
Tell her. You could ask her where she got them after you tell her that you like them.
