The smallest dogs belong to the TOY DOG BRED, followed by the SMALL DOG BREED.

Here is a link showing TOY dog breeds
http://www.petplace.com/dogs/toy-dog-breeds/page1.aspx
Among the toy dogs, I like
-papillons: easy to train and love to learn, do not bark excessively, adult weight less than 10 pounds
-pomeranians: usually under 7 pounds, active, can be vocal
-chihuahas: usually under 5 pounds, very active, loving ("smallest dog in the world" title is held by a chihuahua)

Here is a link showing SMALL dog breeds
http://www.petplace.com/dogs/small-dog-breeds/page1.aspx
Here are some of my favorites:
-miniature dachshund: adult weight is less than 11 pounds, great family pet, very alert, highly intelligent and loving
-bichon frisse: weighs between 10 to 18 pounds, cheerful, affectionate, good for people with allergies
-beagle: adult weight between 18 to 30 pounds, friendly and good-natured

My miniature dachshund is great. I've had several dog breeds and sizes, and I have to say that the mini doxie is the best!

actually, canines and cats the two have an identical bacteria of their mouths, neither is cleanser than the different... And that's nicely worth since their mouths are 70 % cleanser than a individual's mouth and you rather do not strategies cohabiting with human beings, do you? they're greater in all danger to make you ill than animals. there is oftentimes a great distinction between cultural/religious ideals and technology, no count which faith you save on with (or not). All residing creatures may well be skill vectors for zoonotic illness. in case you at the instant are not immunocompromised, then you rather % not project medically, purely wash your palms, that's a good theory to do besides in case you have been in public, procuring, touching a the grocery cart or doorknobs, and so on. good hygiene is usually a good theory. And by making use of ways, family members canines have been genetically engineered by making use of human beings and that i in my view have confidence that consists of the accountability of being their stewards through fact they remember on us for wellness and happiness. All creatures deserve compassion.

Research toy breeds. Either find a reputable show breeder or find a dog at the pound, rescue or shelter.
There is no such thing as TCUP DOGS!!!!!
People use that term to make thousands of dollars on small puppies that aren't going to grow large.

I have a maltese and he is just under 9 pounds ( large for a maltese) and he looks just like a puppy full grown. They are very adorable dogs, very mild mannered, people lovers, playful, and cute, and best of all he doesn't shed. I've been a large dog breed guy my whole life, I met my wife and the maltese has changed my mind. Score!!!

Bichon Frise...they are along the line of poodles...if you've seen pictures their fur can be fluffed out but mine doesn't look like that...I don't like the ones like that...anyway they're so cute and stay medium sized..
