What is the difference between 32-bit and the 64-bit version DVD for Microsoft Vista Home Premium OEM. I thought all Microsoft Vista OS is 64-bit except for the Home Basic. So why is there a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Home Premium?

64 bit OS's take advantage of 64b processors and memory addresses. Thusly, you can use more than the ~3gb memory limit present in Windows 32b. Great if you need lots and lots of RAM (up to a few exabytes with VRAM turned on)

The 64bit platform, however, is VERY limited in software and driver support. I wouldn't recommend it in the slightest.

It has it's perks... Some situations are much faster in 64bit (if both the program, OS, and CPU support it) but most are not.

And yes, I use both faithfully.

Well, 64 bit is a different architecture, but 32 is more widely accepted so many apps wont work in 64 vista but the ones that do will be running more quickly. I'd suggest you stayed with 32 bit.

get 32 bit. 64 bit is for developers. 64 bit has limited driver support, and not a lot of programs are designed for it.

If you have 64bit hardware, get the 64bit version. It will be faster, and support more memory.
