How right you are ... it's the song that makes the singer, which is why songwriters are the quietly richest and most satisfied individuals on the planet.

I like:
Perhaps perhaps perhaps
Seduced
Can't stand the rain
Top of the world
Shut your eyes
I hear you breathing in

...

so many songs, truly great songs. Unfortunately the Great Unwashed But Heavily Deodorised go for truly naff and gimmicky songs. Cleverness has overtaken passion.

Jazz? Country? Pop? Rock? Blues? Lounge?

I have a few favourites but what about "Time After Time" sung by Rod Stewart, "I'm Going To Love You, Like Nobody Loves You" by Keith Urban or "So Nice" by Stacey Kent. Tony Bennet has got a lot of wonderful songs too.

Well thats a bit subjective don't you think? Me, I love Metallica, Therapy?, Megadeth... and Blur.

Any song in the world can be great, it really depends on the performance. Even Metallica have done naff performances, and if thats alll you'd seen of them you'd have to wonder why they're the kings of metal.

This category is performing arts so I am basing this on you are looking for something to sing. A good crowd pleaser is Open Arms by Journey. It sounds great acapella.
