low and behold they ask you...NOT rude..."where do you work?"....and you answer politely..then they said.."well, how much money do you make?"...now that i am taken back with....whoa!!...it took me a couple minutes to think of something to say back..."enough to support myself"...do you THINK THEY GOT THE HINT???? Plus don't they realize that is personal and i may not ever see their son again???...i figured if they would ask me that...WHAT ELSE WILL THEY ASK???

Yes. Asking you how much you earn is rude. And I think you handled the situation beautifully.

yeah that is kind of rude to ask a question like that the first time you meet them i mean if you were talking about marraige its different or well i it was your dad because dads are protective of thier daughters but seriously that was really wierd to ask lol

the question is wrong because you are not marring their son. also because you just meet them.and i think you answered in a polite way. the one about where you work is not bad don't trip on that.

Answering "not enough, I could really use your help in paying some of my bills" works wonders too.
