Upper respiratory in young cats can be very serious, to fatal. They can also be difficult to treat. The can be viral or bacterial. Neither viruses or bacteria care a hoot about holostic remidies. While total kitten support is always helpful... vaporizor, nutritional support, etc, don' neglect the help that veterinary science can offer. I have had good success in difficult cases with zithromax. The longer you wait, the worse it will be. Dr W veterinarian

What kind of infection? You need to be aware that upper respiratory infections reoccur in cats again and again when they have them, especially if it's cat 'flu. Once this virus is present in their system they remain a carrier for the rest of their lives, even when they're not showing symptoms.

A viral respiratory infection will flare up from time to time, and need controlling with medication. I don't know about holistic remedies, but I would advise a visit to the vet, especially if you haven't already done so. Viruses can only be fought off by the immune system, so all that can be done is to support the animal while it recovers from the latest bout. Be aware that this problem may be harder to manage as the cat gets older, you might want to consider getting the cat tested for FIV (feline AIDS) - this virus attacks the immune system which makes it harder for animals to fight off infections.

I don't know of any holistic medicines, but I want to warn you to keep a close eye on him. If he continues to get worse or does not improve, he should definitely see a traditional veterinarian for treatment. Also make sure that he is drinking, eating, and breathing okay.

It could just be a virus that will go away on its own, but then again, it could turn into a secondary bacterial infection that needs antibiotics. Simple URIs can sometimes turn into pneumonia when untreated... if that were to happen, he'd need intense treatment--X-Rays, IV fluids and hospitalization, IV antibiotic injections every 6 hours, etc, etc.
