1. I am not afraid of the dentist.
2. I have had approx. 8 fillings.
3. It doesn't hurt to get a filling. They numb your mouth, and occasionally there will be a twinge of pain. They usually tell you to raise your hand if you feel pain, and they will either inject more novocaine or change the drill bit. Even though it doesn't hurt, it can be uncomfortable, especially with the slow drills that rattle your jaw.
4. The shot hurts more. They use a numbing gel on the area of the shot, but you can still feel them hit the nerve.
5. That depends on how deep the cavity is. I'm guessing that after you are thouroughly numbed (takes up to a half hour) the drilling can last around 20-30 minutes each. After that, they fill the teeth, which takes another 20 or so minutes. It will all seem like forever though.

Good luck! It's really not that bad. In my opinion getting braces on and getting teeth pulled were worse experiences.

1. Are you afraid of the dentist?
No, I'm not afraid of the dentist. I'm always nervous when i go there though because i don't want cavities. there's no reason to be afraid though, it's a good way to get your teeth looked after.

2. Do you have any cavities? If so then how many?
No, but when I was little I had to get two of my baby teeth pulled because my new ones were growing in behind them.

3. Did it hurt bad getting them drilled? Give me a number 1-10. (10hurting the most)
I didn't have any cavities.

4. What hurts more, the shot or the drilling?
If you have a good dentist, you should barely be able to feel a needle in your mouth. I had to get one to get my baby teeth, and I had no idea they pulled them until I saw one of my teeth.

5. How long to they take do be filled?
They really don't take long to be filled 1/2 hour to an hour. I know this because my brother had a cavity.

Just relax when you're in there and good luck! You'll be fine!
Sorry I couldn't help as much as I wanted to.

1. To be honest, I kind of LIKE going to the dentist.
2. Half of one, I believe.
3. No, not at all. Since it was barely a cavity, they didn't have to to give me anything. I just felt a hell lot of vibrating. So, I'll give it a one.
4. Well, I can't really answer this question. As I said before, I was not given a shot. The dentist said that he didn't think that I'd need one, seeing that my cavity wasn't even a whole one.
5. I believe that this was different for me. It lasted less than ten minutes.

I don't really know what to say, except that I do not think that it will be too bad. My brother has had a numerous amount of cavities filled (I am guessing somewhere between 10 and 14 teeth), and he appears to still be alive.

1. I used to be when I was little but now I realize the dentist is just trying to help.
2. I had 3 cavities filled last week.
3. Well it will depend on if you have a big or little cavity. Obviously the big cavities will hurt more but from my experienced I would give a 6.
4. Definatly the shot.
5. About 10-20 minutes.

1. no
2. no cavities, but I have had fillings - 2 in my adult teeth
3. no, it didn't hurt, I just felt a bit of vibration
4. I didn't feel either. They put on a really good gel to freeze the gums first so I didn't know they did the needle until I felt my mouth freeze. And the drilling didn't hurt because I was frozen. It didn't hurt when the freezing came out either.
5. One was very small, so maybe 10 minutes after I was frozen. The other one I think was still less than 1/2 hour.

I like the rubber dam. It can be a little intimidating at first, but it is great. It keeps anything from getting into your mouth and throat so you can swallow whenever you want, and it also prevents saliva from getting onto the tooth they're working on - which means they can keep the working area dry and fix it a lot faster.

1. Yes! But after I go I'm glad that I did. I havn't had anything happen to make me afraid...just the typical nervousness
2. Yes...3
3. No....you just feel the vibration from the drill and maybe a little pressure. The numb you up pretty good.
4. Shot....after the shot you don't feel the drilling and the shot is a quick pain. It hurts but you get over it quick
5. It all depends on the dentest and what teeth. Maybe an hour for two?

Breath deep, relax and a lot of dentists have posters that you can see. Focus on them, or think about a song or something in your head. Keep your mind occupied and the time will fly.

well Im right there with ya sister, I had a bad experience getting a tooth pulled. So the best thing you can do is take care of your teeth, so you dont have to get any filled. I think the shot is the worst part. The drilling doesnt hurt, it just smells funny. Be sure to let the dentist know that you are COMPLETELY NERVOUS, If he is a good decent doc, he will be sensitive to your anxiety. Ask for headphones, turn them up. That way you dont hear the drill. I find that if I keep breathing (dont hold breath) it will keep you calmer. I have had alot of dental work done this last year. And I am grateful to my dentist, he knows when to cool it so I dont scream or faint. I get myself so worked up, im a basketcase till its all done. Then Im like..whoa, that wasnt too bad. Drilling...id give it a 0....shot....like a 3..depending on where they have to put the shot. but think of it this way. itll be numb asap. Just really remember to breath deep and slow while getting the shot. Dont even worry that you deep breaths will affect the dentist. They are wearing a mask and Im sure they have smelled worse.good luck!!

Almost everybody are afraid of dentist because
first thing that they think of is getting shot.
If you are too nervous you will anticipate how painful is the shot... but it don't really hurt that much just ask your dentist to be gentle and slow. Drilling is not painful at all once you are numb.
It depends what kind of filling you going to
get, regular shouldn't take more than minutes.
My advice to you is talk to your dentist and
let him know that you are a bit nervous so he
can be gentle to you and explain to you what his going to do , that way you'll calm
and relax.
