GOOD actions and Prayer to God are linked to each other so closely. Without one the other will lose its significance. The true Almighty God doesn’t need anything. He don’t need our prayers. Instead we human beings need to pray to him to do good actions always. Today a good thing for a person A is considered as bad for B. For a same person, A drinking alcohol become bad just if he travels 5 kms. Tamil Nadu Pondicherry border is a classic example for this. Killing a rapist is good action, but who does it determines if that killing is good or bad. Humans have to be controlled during every moment of his/her life. Otherwise we will discover problems like HIV / Aids, Cancer, Nuclear Bombs, Terrorism ect. The best control of any human being comes from his/her own self control. This self control can be achieved only by the “Fear” of God. The real challenge is to identify the “True” and “ Real” God. Periodical prayers like 5 times a day remind us about this God-Fear. Even when police or any other person are not watching, a God-Fearing person will be aware that God is watching him. This will make to keep away from sins. For this constant reminder prayers are useful. Prayers are not just going to Masjids every Friday, or going to church every Sunday or to temple on some auspicious occasions and doing some exercises using legs and hands. Prayers are meant for one’s own self control with the culmination of physical and mental into one being.

Both.
Praying to God INCLUDES listening to His responses...they won't hit you like a ton of bricks but they're there. It's also psychological in that, doesn't it feel better to tell someone what's going on with you and knowing that they'll take care of you and watch over you no matter what? That right there's good for the soul.

You are placing God out side of you. If you truly believe that God is Omni present than God is in you as well as out side of you.

If you see it this why than Communicating with God and Physiological activity are the same thing.

Prayer works for the same reason a magic spell works or meditation. It's your thoughts made manifest.
