I'm a Mormon. We believe lots of things. The name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
We believe in continuing revelation from God... both personal (directly) and to living prophets. We rely upon the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and we accept all the beliefs of the early Christian church.... which we believe fell into apostacy, and was restored in these latter-days, by heavenly ministration. We have apostles, prophets, teachers, etc, and a lay ministry (unpaid). We all participate in some way in the running of the church.
To listen to or download some of our church music you can go here: http://www.lds.org/churchmusic/
To read our basic doctrines you can go here: http://www.mormon.org
Our nickname is "Mormons" because one of the further revelations of God that we accept as scripture (in addition to the Bible) is the Book of Mormon. You can read that here: http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bm/contents
Email me if you want! I love to make new friends, whatever the belief system. I love to learn new things.

"The Church of the Latter Day Saints".
Clean-cut people who come up to you in the street and ask if they can tell you something about Jesus.
They follow Christianity, but also the teachings of Joseph Smith who styled himself a prophet and added another book to the Bible called the book of 'Mormon'. The book tells the story of how the lost tribes of Israel got into barrels and floated across the Atlantic, guided by the light of God, until they washed ashore and became the Native Americans.
They used to be polygamous (many wives) until a few decades ago when they banned that due to everyone else taking the piss. However a splinter group (the Fundamentalist LDS) still practices it.
They are alleged to cut off friends and family members who leave the church, which if true would qualify them as a 'cult' in the popular vernacular.
The power structure of their church makes it very easy for child abusers to get away with it, something they have actually acknowledged and I believe are trying to fix - or at least organise a damage limitation exercise.
Like any other group of people most Mormons are good rather than evil. I personally have nothing against them, except for the Osmond family.

You're best off going to their website. Asking this question here, you'll get a couple of intelligent answers from Mormons, then a deluge of anti-Mormon propaganda from people who've heard weird rumors and/or have an axe to grind. Just watch.

Mormons are not Christians simply because they believe their founder was gods next messiah and every head of church is a messiah too. They like to throw in church of Jesus Christ and the ladder day saints so they can convert Christians into their bull **** church. Lets not forget that they fought against the united states government for land, and killed many native Americans. The book of Mormon is also filled with fictional and is extremely racist toward black people. Fundimentalist moroms who practice poligamy believe that for every wife they have on earth they will have their own world to be a god of in heaven.

Also the "Latter day saints," Mormons are the followers of the teachings of a certain Joseph Smith who is reported to have lived in upstate New York in the 1800's. Back then he would predict the future by staring at a couple of amber stones. Eventually he claimed to have been visited by the angel "moroni" who gave him his marching orders. In time he made a few converts, one of whom was a murderer named Brigham Young who sought to establish a holy land of sorts and moved his group to Utah. The "LDS" church also claims authority over the Bible and has substituted its teachings with the "book of Mormon." They claim to be Christians, but their faith is nothing but. At one point they taught that being of the black race was a punishment for sin and even denied them the ability to join their church. Polygamy has also been a traditional practice in mormonism for quite a long time. They also claim that God has physical sex with the virgin Mary to procreate Jesus and that God himself is just another man who, in time, moved up through the ranks and became enlightened. In their view only men can become enlightened and women better be nice to their husbands or they will not be resurrected afterwards.
That is the long and short of it.
Mr. M on "mormons."
