Religion in and of itself is not THE moral compass. It is belief in a specific religion that gives us mortals our own
moral compass, and by which we guide our actions. There are so many "religions" and so many teachings within them,
that the only true moral compass comes from our conscience,
and our own understanding of God.

God's laws hold the moral compass of man and the heavens and the earth's compasses. God even holds in His hand the very breath that you breathe. Jesus said, "I am life." He also said that He is the truth and the way.

Pure religion, and undefiled is to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

There is no moral compass, that is Masonic doctrine.

Absolutely not.

Religion serves several functions, one of them to provide a moral code. If we used the old testament as a moral code (rather than use our own moral code to cherry pick from the old testament) we would be pretty immoral people.

Morality is one's own sense of right and wrong. Religion has nothing to do with it.

For example, it is immoral and unethical in my opinion to limit science and knowledge. It is also immoral and unethical to murder people. Most religions can't claim innocence in either case.

No.

* Religion is responsible for many past and present immoral acts

* Religion is not required for morality

* Is morality-because-a-god-is-watching actually morality?

* do theists avoid killing and stealing only because their god forbids it?
