Catholics offered rite to cut purgatory stay
Friday, July 13, 2007BY JIM LEWISOf The Patriot-News
Charles Shriner is a religious pilgrim in a PT Cruiser, driving about 25 miles from his home town to the holy destination he seeks -- a cathedral on State Street in the city.

There, at St. Patrick Cathedral, his pilgrimage is complete. After Mass and confession, he and other pilgrims -- his wife and sister among them -- have taken advantage of a rare offer by the Roman Catholic Church to reduce their souls' time in purgatory after death.

The church is offering its 240,000 followers in central Pennsylvania a plenary indulgence that might reduce the time their souls spend in purgatory to be cleansed of their sins.

Purgatory is not Biblical it's man-made.
Jesus Christ ALONE Purges us from sins that's why he died , he didn't die in vain!!!!!!!!!!

The indulgences that were offered are acceptable in the Catholic faith. Even after the Protestant Reformation, or as Catholics like to see it Protestant Revolution, an indulgence was still offered. Supposedly it is in the bible that it is allowed to give a person an indulgence because of the what you withold on earth is witheld in heaven stuff. I personally think that you should serve your time instead of having your time cut short because you can afford to pay your way through things, if your gona be punished after you die for what you did, be a real human and own up to it and take whats coming to you. Also in keeping with Church thinking, if your not truly sorry for the things your being forgiven for with the indulgence and you dont intend to change your ways, you will still have to serve the same amount of time in purgatory or whatever. So just getting it doesnt shorten your time, the change and repentance must come from deep within.

With worldwide warming and the top point greenhouse gasses it is that our souls never exchange into organic because of the pollutants, then we'd never be waiting to bypass away that area between heaven and earth. If the sky turns brown, we are able to comprehend that the souls of evangelicals are up there blocking off the solar and ought to be the answer for worldwide cooling.

I was stunned when I read about this. George Bush decreases his buddy, Scooter Libby's sentence, and the Pope will decrease any devout Catholic's sentence. I wonder how he does that -- he must have a hot line to God.

This is why Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation.

I personally don't believe this. I am Protestant. I have some cousins that are Catholic that don't believe in purgatory.
