The Bush Administration and Republicans are pushing to send more troops to Iraq, but how many of them have kids, spouses, friends, etc. fighting their war?! NONE!!! Their families are home for the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and any other celebration. Why send any of them to be killed when they can send other peoples' families instead? I would LOVE for someone to ask Bush this question during one of his addresses! (Of course, he'll just ignore it and try to move on, as he's done in the past.)

(daughterS) it doesn't matter how many he has. It would be the same if he had boys willing to go.

To my knowledge after a quick google search,NO members of any of the senior members of the Bush administration have any loved ones serving .
The rich/powerful have a long filthy history of using their power/money/connections to keep their loved ones OUT OF HARMS WAY including Bush's PAPPY who with a wink and a nod and a third party got his spoilt little addictive lying drunk son safely tucked away in the National Guard.
I guess Cheney's daughter couldn't join the troops in Iraq because she is a lesbian.Nothing wrong with being a lesbian of course but racists (yes, homophobia is racism) in the military etc will not allow homosexuals to serve.
Also Cheney kept getting deferment after deferment during the Vietnam war and never served as did Rumsfeld.
Why on earth do military people support these service avoiding conservatives/Republican elitists especially mothers that have lost sons and daughters in Bush's Iraqi crime against humanity.

I'm a Republican, currently enlisting in the Coast Guard, and I'd be SO PROUD to go to Iraq and serve the country. Regardless of whether or not military personnel agree with the war, they signed up and listen go with respect to do the job that their country has demanded of them. So maybe I won't always be home for all the birthdays and holidays--I'll be doing something worthwhile and hoping that my family members won't be sitting there without me making statements such as "Why can't somebody else go and serve?" What, you're saying only family members of Democrats are serving in the war? What an ignorant statement.
If one of Bush's daughters wanted to fight, I'd hope he'd support her as any parent of a military child should do. Making them feel guilty about missing holidays sure isn't supportive.

As a soldier, I wouldn't want his daughters in the Army. Yikes. The point is not making people serve involuntarily. The point is that it is very easy for people to be for the war when they don't have family members at risk. I am constantly amazed by people who want to send troops here and there (Iraq, Iran, etc.) and yet have never served and never would. Guess it's ok to support other people dying so you can be a hawk!
Another pet peeve - all these folks who spout numbers of the military that are conservative. I'd like to see some back up once in a while.

Franz, it's daughters not daughter. Neither seem to be brilliant scholars either. Guess daddy didn't instill that patriotism as much as one would think? Granted, they would be expensive in the military. Wouldn't be anywhere near the combat zone. Still the sentiment would be something? Other presidents children have been in the military.
What gets me is one of the Bush daughters has written a book. It's about a single Central American woman with a child and the woman also has AIDS. I don't like to see people suffering etc. Still, her daddy started a war where AMERICANS are dying etc. His daughter is concerned about some woman is Central America that was sleeping around and caught AIDS? What's with that???

In America you have a choice to join the military. Neither of his girls have yet to join, so as of yet neither are qualified to go. Also, women do not fight in the front lines.
The most important reason why however is the same reason why Prince Henry is not allowed to fight. They would become an automatic target and put their fellow soldiers in combat at extreme risk.
Remember this is not an eye for an eye type deal. Having Bush's daughters in combat, or having them get killed themselves would not make any American feel any better about the loss of their loved ones.

Bush does not send his children or any child of the American gentry to Iraq because, the burden of providing for the security of American business interest has always, and will always fall upon the shoulders of the underprivileged. The rich go to war as a matter of "the experience of it all," but the poor go to war as a matter of survival!

I agree with you that most of the politicians that are behind this war are also hypocrites, but at the same time, the soldiers being sent are volunteers. They joined the army to fight. You could argue that many of them are opposed to the war in Iraq and wouldn't fight in that particular war if they were asked. But still, they joined the army to defend America, they cant be too picky as to who they want to defend it from.

Since the military is over 75% Conservative I think plenty are backing up their words with action. Now we do have an all volunteer force and do you honestly think sending the Presidents daughters into a war zone is the best use of our military? Let's use a little common sense and maturity here okay?

Can Bush reenlist when he leaves office. I know he will want to continue to fight for freedom, but this make sure he is doing it from Iraq.

Both of his daughters are adults. He cannot force them or anyone else who joins the military to join. You must keep in mind that our armed forces are 100% voluntary. When you sign up, you know that you could be put into a position of danger. You are absolutely wrong that no republicans have children in the war. You are also forgetting about all the democrats that also voted for this war. How about if someone in your family was sacrified to the wood chipper by Saddam or raped by one of his sons, then fed to the dogs (literally). Don't ever forget that we have no draft. Everyone who has signed up to be in the US armed forces has done so voluntarily.
