I always give $10 or $15 (but I usually spend about $85 on services). I'm pretty sure it's 18% officially. I got a gift certificate for a salon once and in small print it said that an 18% gratuity was expected for the regular full price of whatever service I would be getting.

It is customary in the U.S. to tip between 15 and 20% for a haircut.

Any salon who states they "expect" a gratuity can kiss my (***) Here I've put the asterisks in myself.
Frankly it depends on if they do a good job, listened to my instructions and did what I asked.
If I'm paying $100 then I want to walk out feeling satisfied.
Frankly when I'm going to someone's house to get my hair done they are making enough money charging me what a normal salon would cost, and I don't feel they even deserve a tip, but I do.
Most salons rip people off and overcharge anyhow, not even stating thier prices anywhere visible and I won't go to anyone unless they are proven by what I see they've done to others. The mall salons will never get my business as they are lousy and charge you double what anyone else would.

I just give 3 bucks when I have my hair cut - I go to cost cutters so it's like 14 bucks, so I think 3 bucks is good enough. It takes like 15 minutes, whip de do

Well, on a humorous note, a good tip for a hairdresser would be, make sure you listen to what I am saying and get it right, lol. It must be hard to transfer what one persons vision of a particular haircut is to another, without a photograph.

I tip a buck. But mine takes like 5 minutes. I could easily justify not tipping.

umm depends where you go usually less then you would tip a restuarant although i think it should be more considering thier service lasts longer but just tip whatever you wish they are getting paid anyway so they appreciate it but shouldnt expect it!
