Yes, a perinatologist specializes in maternal-fetal medicine. They train first as obstetricians, then take further training in genetics and some fetal and neonatal physiology. They are involved in high risk pregnancies where there is danger to the mother or to the fetus. They may deliver babies and perform C-sections. They do amniocenteses and chorionic villus sampling to assess fetal health or chromosomal complement.

It can be a stressful career. Malpractice premiums are high.

Income: above average. It's a lot of work to become a perinatologist. I suppose there are always a few who go into it for the money but there are less demanding specialties.
