If you could get television of the country, that would be very helpful. I learned a second language from the television - okay, I was living in the country at the time, but children's programmes are really good for this.

You could also invest in a webcam, and sign up for an online course with a tutor. It's expensive.

Also, once you try the basics, rent the movie in the original language with subtitles. Most people learn by watching and hearing. To get the basics, I would still take a class or two.

There's a site "Before You Know It" or BYKI.... I used it to download (for free) and transferred the files to my MP3.

So learning can be convenient and easy, laying in bed, waiting for a bus, having lunch at work etc etc... Good luck and remember to have fun learning. The best way of improving accent and pronunciation is by interaction, so hope someone you know will help you with that.

C'est tout!

I've learnt Portuguese with the Linguaphone course, I found it better than the Rosetta Stone..but try both out before you buy. They have their own websites and you could get a demonstration. Both are good but different...horses for courses.

dunno. I've been teaching myself japanese from home.

Try finding a podcast on itunes. You don't need an ipod just download it and listen to it in itunes. (which you can download for free) if you learn japanese i recommend japanesepod101

they also have a good website.

Get books too. Try buying children's books in that language and listening to music and watching shows in that language. it helps with pronounciation and picking up on the words and slang.

Have you heard of a program offered on t.v. called the Rosetta Stone? It includes lots of different languages, and you can use at at home and at your own pace. Check it out.
