i believe in charitable work (soup kitchen, walkathons). it far outweighs sitting in church and reciting some scripture from the bible. what do you think?

The best ministry is in your heart. Soup kitchens and walkathons are great as long as you are doing them for the right reasons. Some people do good work to get the limelight.
Doing good for others does indeed show your ministry within you, and touches others. Planting the seed of knowledge is also what you are doing!

My opinion is that church is good when you are first seeking out that spirituality and direction to G-D. A link if you will, but like everything else that one may take to excess in this world, it can have its down side as well.
Those who put the religion before their
service to the Life force/G-D are then
simply serving themselves (the Ego/the devil).
It sounds like you are already moved
by the "Great Spirit" and unless you
are seeking like minded people
(some of whom DO go to church)
then i would see little need for it
on a regular basis.
Maybe the occasional visit to see
what you may be missing and
whether "that" is good or bad.
The true "church" is in the
heart and head, not in any
building made by man
(or women; wouldn't want anyone to feel left out!)

good works are good. going to church is good. if you are truly devout, and not just paying lip service, then neither is better than the other, but both should be done together. church can be a great opportunity for an hour of calm and meditative contemplation in a very hurried and otherwise not very spiritually focused world.

i don't agree. both are really necessary. it's great that you are giving. but you need to be served and given to in return. that is the function of church. you go there for your spiritual feeding. your volunteer work will be much better quality when you serve because you will feel better because you have been to church. you are shortchanging yourself in not going .
