Doesn't that mean a couple is living together? Why would that still be a sin?

In the United States, you cannot not be married unless you actually have it documented at the court house. People use the phrase "biblical sense" as an excuse to sin and not feel guilty about it. Only one problem. God recognizes the laws of the land as long as the law isn't above God.

A legal marriage is a civil contract. Like any civil contract it can be undone by an act of the state. A valid Christian marriage is a covenant, an unretractable mutual promise blessed by God, which forms a union that cannot be undone by any force on earth, except the death of one of the spouses.
