If the ears have many layers of husk on them, peel off the first few only, leaving a few layers for protection. Begin by pulling the husks of the corn back, but do not remove them. Remove and discard the silk.
Soak the whole cobs in a pot of cold water for 15 minutes. Be sure the ears are completely covered with water. This will provide extra moisture for cooking and will steam the corn kernels inside the husks.
While the corn is soaking, preheat the grill to a medium temperature.
Remove the corn from the water and shake off any excess water.
Brush the kernels with olive oil. NOTE: I’ve tried using butter instead of olive oil, but I think butter is best applied after the corn comes off the grill just before you eat it. Before you re-wrap the corn in the husks, add a little garlic, chopped onion, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. For an international twist, try using herbs such as basil, cilantro, or oregano.
Then reposition the husks back over the kernels and tie each ear with a piece of loose husk or twine.
Place the prepared ears of corn on a medium heat, rotating the corn as needed to keep it from getting charred too much on one side.
After a couple of turns, place the corn husk on an indirect heat or on the top shelf of your grill and close the cover.
Allow the corn to slowly roast for another 15 minutes.
You will know it is done when you press a kernel and it shoots out it’s sweet liquid. Don’t overcook the corn however or it will become mushy. You know when you’ve gone too far if the corn cob flexes easily in your hands.
Remove the corn from the grill. Be careful and wear oven mitts as the corn will be very hot!
Grasping one end with a oven mitt or dish towel, peel the silk and leaves from the top down (like a banana). They should all come off in one piece. Ashes will get on the corn, but this is ok. If the corn is too hot to handle do this part in the sink under warm running water.
Once you've removed most of the silk, rinse the corn under warm running water to remove any excess ash and silk.
Serve with butter and enjoy!

Smoked Corn on the Cob
INGREDIENTS:
* 6 to 12 ears of corn with the husks still on
* 1/2 cup olive oil
* 1 bunch green onions, finely chopped
PREPARATION:
Gently pull back the husks on the each ear of corn. Remove the silk but not thew husks. Place the ears in a large pan and fill with water to cover the corn. Let sit for several hours. Remove from water and brush the corn with olive oil and add about 1 to 2 teaspoons of the green onions.Pull the husks back over the corn.
Prepare smoker. The ears of corn will need to smoke at 225 degrees F. for about 1 1/2 hours. When done smoking pull back the husks and eat.

I soak mine with the husks on in sugar water for about an hour or so, then right to the grill, the moisture in the husks basically steams the corn and the sugar water adds sweetness to it. Another tip and this is all oldstyle is take a coffee can fill it about 2/3 to 3/4 with hot hot water, then put in two sticks of butter, when the butter melts is stays on top you can dunk your corn in and get it fully buttered without the mess. putting it in aluminum fail takes away the taste as aluminum has a low heat threshold.

I do not put mine in foil I like getting a little bit of char on the outside of my cobs....taste so good! I rub my cobs with a little bit of olive oil and salt n' pepper grilling on all sides for about 10 mins. Oh yes I shuck my corn.....

You dont need to foil it at all, leave the husks on, soak them in water a few minutes, and put the directly on the grill. The water in the husks will make steam and help cook the corn, delicious.
And you dont have to shuck the corn, your guests do.

you can just soak the corn for awhile, and remove the husk carefully just you take out the silk, then you can wrap bacon around the corn put the husk back on and tie with string that you used for the roast. Then grill until done. This is pretty good and I enjoyed them every bar-b-que party. Party on!!

Just shuck the corn, put a little butter and ranch dressing on it, and wrap it in tin foil.
Stick it on the grill for 5-10 minutes and you'll be fine.

gently pull the corn husk back not braking it off, then pull out all the silk, then slide all the husks back up tearing on piece off the outside. Then take that one piece and tie the top of the husks together and throw on the grill...Yummy! It makes it perfect with the mosture from the husks cooking it.

Wrap it in foil, put it on the grill with your hamburgers or hot dogs, and when your burgers are done, so is your corn......mmmmmm, I'm jealous now, btw, I'm going to plan that next.....
It doesn't take long to cook them, just long enough to heat them up......

Wrap it in foil and put it on the top rack of the grill. And cook until it is done. I usually let it cook on one side and flip it but the heat is what cooks it so it should be fine if you leave it on one side.
