Hi, I work for a Primary Care Trust and this is how I understand it works...
You have to go to see your GP about it. If the GP thinks it is worth requesting they will make a referral to the commissioning department at the PCT who then need to submit the request to a panel who usually meet monthly, to see if the PCT should fund this (which is classed as an extra-contractual referral - low priority). The panel will discuss it, taking into consideration many issues such as 'is there sufficient evidence to prove it will aid your BDD', 'is there nothing more cost effective available such as therapies that will aid your condition' etc. Your GP might refer you for a psychological opinion first I'm not sure. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hello,

(ANS) I tend to agree with the previous contributor, I strongly doubt that have breast augmentation surgery will help cure or heal your BDD. This in my opinion is like treating the superficial symptoms but it wouldn't treat the root causes.

**As a man I would prefer a woman or my partner to feel OK about herself even if she has small breasts, rather than have to go through plastic surgery. Woman seem to assume that big or bigger is better, well frankly its a total myth. Given the choice small & natural any day over big & plastic.

I know 100% that the nhs will not foot the bill as they will see this as an ajustment to your body and with bdo you will always want something new done. I think you should speak to your gp and arange some councelling. My friend suffered really bad with bdo and refused concelling and went private even after her gp said not to. she now has bad scars on her face, neck, breasts and hips. I know there`s a lot of stigma attatched to councelling but please give it a go as you may be able to find the root of the problem causing this condition. My friend still says to me now that she wish she had taken her gp`s and friends advice. You don`t need to be a head case to have councelling. I bet your a very pretty girl and it would be awfull if your surgury went wrong or if you got to addicted to it.If you need more advice please contact me.

it may be possible but it up to your doctors to decide it it will have any positive effect on you.
It as been shown that operation such as breast implants are only successful in conditions like yours for a shorten period then the patient moves the focus's to some other area of their body. Best of luck

It may help but it is like making all the signs big for people who are nearsighted instead of having eye surgery.

probably not, it's been proven that plastic surgery will not improve or change bdd.
