Toss the flea collar in the trash and get yourself some Advantage. Before the introduction of Advantage my pets were always covered in fleas even with brand new flea collars. The very first time I applied Advantage to them the flea problem disappeared entirely within 2 or 3 days and more importantly the stuff works for 3 or 4 months at a time... (the package says 30 days, but I suspect thats just to make you buy more than you really need to. I apply about every 10-12 weeks and none of my pets have fleas at all)
As for the poisons in the collar I would not worry about it. One little taste isn't going to hurt anything.. its not like he ate the whole collar or something.

Flea collars are 100% pointless, and occasionally dangerous. Fleas have to actually walk on the collar to die - they're not effective. Hartz is also a brand known to be problematic. In other words, get that collar off your dog!!
Appropriate flea control is not found in shops, it's only found in vets. You need a spot-on product like Frontline, it can be used every two months on dogs to prevent fleas.

I personally don't like flea collars. They smell funny and you have to wash your hands after touching the collar because the chemical could irritate your skin. I put Advantage flea medicine on my dogs once a month. I got it from my vet and it is very safe. It goes on the dog's back and it protects from fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes for a whole month. It can be a little messy though, but it is worth it.

Instead of using a flea collar, use Advantage or a similar product. It works a _lot_ better. My cats had fleas only once in their lives, and after one treatment of advantage (just a couple drops on the back of the neck) it got rid of them.

never buy anything HARTZ makes. flea collars do not work. you need a good product from your vet - not the OTC cheap stuff.

I would call your vet, and let them know what happen. Your dog should be fine unless he ate part of the collar. Just a bite he should be fine.

That probably will not be enough to do any harm to him. It isn't like he is chewing it up and eating it.
