Just so you know your 3rd reply was half right and with him being law enforcement that's not saying much. It's not a mandatory 48 hr wait it's 72 hrs. It's a mandatory 3 day wait and it has to be business days. Weekends and holidays do not count and you can pick up your pistol on the 4th day. This is a "cool down" period not for a further indepth check. The cool down period comes from the Brady Act dating back to when Reagan was President. If you already own a handgun you can trade it in towards the purchase of a new handgun and it will void the wait. You have to be 18 to purchase long guns and long gun ammo and 21 to buy a handgun and handgun ammo. Any pawn shop can give you the packet that you need and last I checked it was $117. This is if you want a concealed permit. If you were were in the military and have a honorable discharge then you can bypass the safety class which is $50. Hope this is more informative.

Here's the situation you don't need a permit to purchase a firearm, that right is covered under the second amendment. You only have to be above the age of 18 and not have any felonys. Now to do this you purchase the firearm from your local dealer they will run a quick background check through the state. If you meet the two stipulations i stated above your good to go, pay for the gun and your gun. For a rifle or shotgun take anyhwere from 30 min to a few hours. By law if your purchasing a pistol you have to be above 21 and have a mandatory 48 hr waiting period for a more indepth check. now if your talking about a concealed weapons permit which is different you have to go to a police station to apply for the permit, after that you must go thru a gun training class with that weapon. But again thats only if you wish to carry a weapon you have already purchased legally. I am a police officer and other than a strange city code that i'm not aware of thats the whole process.

good luck and be safe

That would be your driver's license or other photo ID. If you've moved and your address on your DL isn't your current address, you'll need something else (a utility bill, for instance) for proof of residence when you buy your gun. It's unconscionable (though done) that a state require a permit. It's as if you needed a permit to speak. The concept of paying a tax and asking permission to exercise a constitutional right is absurd.

You don't need one to buy a gun. Trust me, I live in Florida.

However, I do have a concealed carry weapon's permit, it's not that easy to get depending on the city you live in.

As long as he is a permanent resident for a long while (at least six months in many states), he may own one if he isn't barred for any other legal reason.

look online for a concealed weapon liscence class in your area.In Jacksonville you don't have to own a gun to get a liscence to carry one.The class is very easy, all you have to do is listen to someone for a couple of hours and shoot a gun they provide into a covered box.

The hardest part is having a clean criminal record. The background check can take up to six weeks.Your liscence will last for 5 years and you can renew it by paying $65.00 for another 5 years as long as you stay clean.
