Nissan Recommends you use Premium fuel... 91 is what is recommended but my girlfriends uses regular unleaded and has noticed no issues as of yet and has 9,000+ miles on it. It is Recommended... NOT required.... check on line in some murano forums and see what others have said.

At least 87 octane. That's regular however experiment with fuels in your area. I have some customers reporting 6 miles a gallon improvement with premium 93 octane in Texas. Most of the USA 91 octane if that gives you 3 miles more to a gallon use it because the .20 cents extra cost equals out.

It's a good idea to always use premium fuel. It's better for your engine, increases fuel economy, increases horsepower, and really isn't much more expensive than regular. If you get 15 gallons of premium that is 20 cents more a gallon than regular (like it is at most gas stations) it's only $2.50 more. It will last you longer anyway which means it saves you money long term, so you should always buy premium regardless of whether its required/recommended.

No it does not. I have had a 2005 Maxima, which is actually tuned to 10 more hp, and I've never had any trouble in 35,000 miles.
Most modern vehicles have multiple knock sensors and variable valve timing. What all that means is the engine adjusts the timing to the octane and will retard the timing to prevent knock. So,instead of getting 255 hp on high test, you might be getting 248 or 245.But the car runs fine and saves you $$$,so keep doing it.
If the car is turbocharged, the rules are different. For turbos, follow the manual.
