All of a sudden last night he just stopped in this ivy and wouldn't walk on his left front paw. When he finally did walk, he really favored it and limped on it. He got inside and laid down and when he got up after a while, he seemed fine. I checked out his paw and arm and stuff as best I could, but couldn't find anything noticable. I figured he was just being weird. Then this morning he limped a little and he just went for a walk and was limping around again! I am starting to get a little worried. Yesterday I ran him pretty hard, but he seemed fine other than being tired. I moved his arm and wrist and paw and squeezed them all over to see if maybe it was a fracture or something like that, but he never winced or pulled it away or did anything. Any suggestions?

Obviously I will take him to the vet if it continues, it hasn't even been 18 hours and he seems fine half the time. He has torn his ACL's in the past in both legs so I know when he is hurting bad, and this seems just weird.

Maybe your dog had cramp or something, my dog does that but she also licks her paws and un mentionable. She has really bad hay-fever in the summer that's why she does the other things. I have never taken her to the vet because of the limping though as it seems to wear off after about 5 Min's and only happens once every now and then- your dog seems to be doing it a few times in the last day so maybe you should have him taken to the vet just in case.Go asap as you don't want anything to develop. hope I could help.

Your dog is in pain, that's why he's limping. It's why they limp, they don't just to it to be 'weird'.

He may have stepped on something in the ivy, you wouldn't be able to find anything if it has gone deep. Also, you're not a vet so you don't know how to correctly palpate for fractures, muscle or joint problems. Hairline fractures only show up on xrays.

What I'm getting at is, go to a vet now. You've already waited long enough. You say you'll go if it continues - it's time to go now. No point asking this question on here, we haven't even seen the dog so how on Earth would we know what the problem is?

OMG the exact same thing just happened to my dog. I had put him outside and he was just lying in the sun like he always does. Then I heard him whimper so I let him in. He is licking the front paw like something is in it, but he was lying down when it happened. He continues to just limp around and lie die. It is totally out of character. I thought maybe it was a tick since he didn't seem to step on anything.

My dog is fine now. Do you think it could have been a bee sting?

If I were you I would give your dog 2 days at the max, if he cont. to act strange then you should take him to the vet. The dog may have stepped into some something that is possibly he was allergic to or a bug could have bitten him to the extent that it is causing problems in your dogs motor skills.

A Vet, unfortunately. I know they cost money but it's very difficult to diagnose something like this yourself and you could be causing him more harm by waiting.

maybe your dog has something stuck in its foot. if your dog likes to go outside a lot it could possibly step on something pokey. get a magnifiying glass and look at its paw again. thats happened to my dog before.

he might have a thorn or rock or such stuck between her paw pads that is bothering her. seperate all the pads and check. if not bring her to the vet!
