One answer would be the 15th Century Christian practice of impaling 'heretics' on a stake These people were impaled through the anus and out through the mouth. Imagine the agony. Sometimes they could live like that for hours.

I am much more grateful to these early heretics for dying for what they believed in, than for any messiah dying on a cross for "my sins". The arrogance involved in this latter scenario is truly appalling.

Jaysus, we both know that will never happen. It's amazing how they still use the same scare tactics they were using in the Dark ages.

Kizzie! That was funny! Thank you. For some folks the more torture the better. Somebody told me to watch the Passion of the Christ so I can appreciate the agony he went through. What the....? Strange little religion, Christianity.

The very word "crucifixion" comes from the Latin word "crucifare" meaning "to TORTURE" ! There's no doubt in my mind that the people you mentioned died agonizing and terrible deaths, but I suggest you reread the story of Christ's trial and crucifixion and realize just how much He suffered and DIED for your sins and mine! He lived for SEVERAL HOURS in that agonizing state, yet found a way to forgive the ones involved and even to forgive a thief hanging with Him. It amazes me that you find something so loving so "appalling"! If you're an affirmed atheist, I respect your comments due to your right as an American citizen to express them, but don't be so derogatory about what I and many others here believe in! These same "heretics" you mentioned were so labeled not for anything DEMONIC or out of GOD'S will they tried to push on people, but only for trying to share enlightenment and stand for what they could see in God's Word to be a TRUTH worth DYING for!

The agony? Imagine the friggin TASTE!!! Ewwww!!!!!

Ah, you brought back memories of Vlad the Impaler, whom the story of Dracula was most likely based upon... He used to eat dinner at night in a field surrounded by bodies on stakes. Some sick f*&k he was!

That would be worse than the cross... by the way, many of the heretics were the real Christians. Just because a faith claimed Christ doesn't mean they represented him.

Wow, that was quite a history lesson and statement (no sarcasm implied) I can see how you would feel this way. I recently saw the movie "Apocolypto" and I though how they were killing those guys as sacrifice to their Gods was pretty awful... But I think your example wins the prize for most heinous.

Hmm, being cut to pieces, being burned at the stake, being boiled, oh, there was also "the rack" which was used to dismember people.

I have an interest in torture devises.

Yes, I sure feel sorry for them. It's just like that for us present-day heretics. At least we don't get tortured for our beliefs maybe because of their strength of character. I don't remember asking Jesus to die for me. I would have wanted him to live. He died for us and nothing happened except all this damned persecution! (Why am I still being threatened for what I believe in? Thanks for nothing!)

Know that by your words you will be judged.
You have ears but do not hear
You have eyes but do not see
Neither you nor I am good. Neither christian or atheist is good.
But there is a Judgment Day that is to come.
and there is a God to whom you'll kneel, you can't choose to stand when it has become impossible to sit.
A difference between the atheist and the true not fake but true christian is that one of them ignores the truth and the other fights to live the truth. I love you. I love the sinner but hate the sin. Many christians have become dull today, because they let in what is of the world and not of God, they want to be pleasing to the world instead of wanting to be pleasing to God. You cannot be both. You're either cold or hot for God. For God is disgusted by those that are just warm . God is love but He is also a flaming fire, He has and will punish. So you don't believe, but one day you will see that there is a heaven and a hell, and this hell is not as pleasant as people make it to be. You will end up in one or the other. The question for so many is "which one will it be" because you cant change your mind once your already in hell. You think this life is tough? Hell will only be worse. The only way to keep hell from being our reality one day, is to live for Him on here on earth, change our evil ways and pray for forgiveness. The pure life is the life that I'm going for and I can tell you this for sure I AM MORE FREE AND FULFILLED WITH THIS LIFE THEN I WAS BEFORE I KNEW HIM. thats for sure. Christians shouldn't criticize and judge the man on the corner with a black torn hoodie and tattered shoes. We need to love all people but hate the evil that tries to rip every one of us people apart and kill any life we have left in us. You cannot deny the sorrow and loneliness and suicidal thoughts all people have had. The only way to true happiness that lasts isn't drugs, sex, money. The only way to be freed and untied from all the ropes that tie you down, is admitting that Jesus died for you and your nothing without Him. I pray that you will find that out before it is too late. I do care, I don't even know who you are, for all I know you could be some kid at school that I have cried to God to let you know Him, It really does hurt me to see so many people out there wandering around empty trying to find the truth. I know from experience that God is the only way to a happy and fulfilled life, because when you have Him, all the waves of the world may fall on you and you'll still be happy and at peace. Without Him, who will bring you back up when you're drowning in pain, you can't be happy when those waves hit so hard, if you don't have Him. Satan is a liar, he won't save you, he'll only play with you, knowing that your his. You can make your choice, no one forces you or anyone else to enter heaven. It is a choice we must all make. I wish you the best. I didn't mean to offend or cause hate in anyone in this messege, but I am not here to be sugar for the world either. I have chosen my path, I want to be salt and light. I don't want to live for myself but instead a humble life pleasing to God in which the world may see the truth to me. I used to be a rebel and thought that I couldn't be a rebel if I am a child of God. Now that my life has changed and the Holy Spirit has taught me more, I realize that I am a rebel, because my definition of rebel is someone who stands out, someone who stands up for what they believe in, and someone who goes against the majority, and now that Christ lives in me that is what I am. I stand out from the crowd....people have told me so, I stand up for what I believe in and I don't go with the majority....the majority is against my Father, and I am with Him. In the Bible it says to "enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." I hope that you too will be fulfilled one day. Peace:)

Both sound like cruel ways to die. Very painful. However, since none of us were there, who can say which was more painful? Besides, believing in the "heretics" won't get you to heaven. Believing in Christ will. Thanks for the question, and have a great day!
