Why, if Peter is the first Pope, are we to fall at the feet of the pope and kiss his feet and worship him?
This seems against what the first pope taught, according to the bible anyway.

I know I am not supposed to read the bible on my own, but I did, so now I need this explained to me.

Even if Peter has been "adopted" by the Catholic church, we are to worship no man.

It doesnt really matter who is claimed to be the head of a church. The bible states that Jesus Christ is the head of the church and we are the body.
There is no room for a two headed monster in my life, and I would hope that you would choose God as the head of your life and follow his teachings and not those of man.

I'm not saying we should worship the Pope (we shouldn't) or that what Cornelius did was right, but don't you have to ask yourself, why would Cornelius, "a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms liberally to the people, and prayed constantly to God" (Acts 10:2), react in such a way to Peter, if Peter was just some ordinary guy who had no special position or authority?

Ok, I'll bite...why can't you read the Bible on your own??? Of course you can, God intended for you to read it, we can understand the Bible too, we don't need someone to read it to us. Peter was not the first pope, he was just a man, he was upset because the people were offering or trying to offer sacrifices to him, and he was like whoa, I'm just a man, the only power I have is through Jesus. Hope this helps. Oh, and we are to only worship God and Jesus, not any man.

OOps, I was thinking of Paul in Chapt 14,

This stuff is soooo much fun. I really love this idea of Yahoo to allow average people, people who know so little about so much, to wax eloquently and demonstrate just how forgiving their requirements are before they glom onto some ridiculous misconception.

I include myself in the group that does not know enough, having said that, I am amazed at the poppy-cock that people choose to believe.

The lie that, ”Catholics worship the pope” was undoubtedly dreamt up by Baptists who are well known not only for their almost complete lack of actual, verifiable knowledge but for name calling directed at anyone that seems to disagree with them. At least the Baptists don’t blow up airplanes and detonate themselves in shopping malls just to kill a few “unbelievers” among which I proudly count myself.

The desperate act of killing oneself just to demonstrate obedience to some make-believe deity is left to the barely past the stone age modern Mesopotamians, She’ia Moslems.

Regarding people who quote biblical figures the following:

There is absolutely no written document available that would allow a serious person, that is to say an honest well informed person, to quote any biblical figure whether that figure was made up by later writers, as most of them were, or actually somebody that may have existed. In fact, when anybody begins a sentence with something like…”and Paul said, or Jesus said, or King David said, you may without hesitation disregard everything which comes afterward.

Do your own research and decide for yourself. Read! Question everything, especially religious missives and sooth-sayers.

the pope is catholic. the people who invented the catholic religion made up these rituals to make others believe they are or were spoken to by God.
The others believe what they are told because they do not read the Bible. They are like sheep being led to the slaughter and they don`t even know it nor do they care. Everyone is supposed to
read the Bible on their own. Read it over and over
and over until it makes sense or until you ask God
for understanding. If you read it as a book, it probably won`t make too much sense. If you read
it as a way to live, with Jesus as the way, truth and
light, it may make a lot of sense.

I have been a Catholic all my life, and I have never been taught that we are to worship the Pope and kiss his feet.

Furthermore, Catholics, according to the Catechism, are to study and read the Bible, and have a love and esteem for the Word of God. John Paul II said that ignorance of the Word of God, is ignorance of Christ.

Where are you getting your information?

You are correct. Both Peter and Paul had instances where they were worshiped as gods. They were both most Distraught! They wanted no worship! They both in essence said all worship belongs to God and not to men. I don't know why the RCC has people worshiping The pope. You might ask your priest for his explanation. Protestants rebelled against that very thing in the 16th century. You SHOULD be reading the bible on your own and asking those kinds of questions. Keep it up!

Who told you not to read the bible on your own? That's the only way to learn Christianity in its true capacity.

Furthermore, worshipping a man is not biblical. And the Pope is just that: a man. Just because he's in a position of authority doesn't mean he's more entitled to be close to God. Anyone can be close to God if they want to be. "...God does not show favoritism" Acts 10:34

Praying to Mary or the other saints is basically idol worship, which is the second commandment. You don't need a middle-man to get to God, you can go straight to him.

peter was one of the apostles...I think he was martyred in Rome....first pope?? no way....

Romans got tired of dealing with the "Christan problem" and appointed a military /religious authority person..pope....

fall at his feet and worship!! isn't that blasphemy??

And who told you that you are not supposed to read the Bible on your own?? It is a love letter from Father God!! Read every word every day!!

Who ever told you not to read your Bible is not to be trusted...

The Pope is a man to be respected and honored highly, because he is the appointed leader of the Catholic Church by Christ. Catholics don't worship the Pope (only God is worshipped) the respect him by listening to his teachings on fiath and morals. Meeting the Holy Father, The Pope, is similar to meeting the President of a country. They are showed respect, because of their high positions in society. God bless.
