FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS AND BABY JESUS, IT WAS MEEEEEE WHO MOWED MY LAWN 20 YEARS AGO.

AND I'M QUITE CERTAIN IT WAS THE ONLY REASON MY PARENTS HAD A CHILD TO BEGIN WITH; SLAVE LABOR!!!

(sorry, having mow-flashbacks)

LMAO@ Josh. God love you dear, I needed a laugh.

That is part of the problem isn't it? Kids don't do much. Many hang out without much to do, and lo and behold they find drugs, many of which are smuggled up from the south on the human mules.
And according to a response to a youtube video I saw, we wouldn't be eating at McDonalds if not for the illegals. Yet every time I look around my local fast food establishments, they all speak English very well, no accent, and are either school teens, or in many cases, older folks.
An illegal has not taken over here. I have no place to store a mower, but I found a nice retired gentlman needing some extra cash. I hired HIM. I have done it myself in the past, and before I would hire an illegal to do it, I would go cut it with scissors.
I would sooner hire a teen or out of work adult citizen than an illegal. And yes, I have seen some people out of work that they shove their mower in the trunk of the car and go out looking for something to put food on the table. They even bring the wife and kids along, and they see if they can drum up another yard or two while Dad mows one.
Those same people would work at McDonalds, or pick produce. Or scrub toilets. All the jobs Americans "won't do" according to the illegal supporters.
Oh, growing up, hmmmmm, Dad worked constantly, but he did sometimes on Sunday, his only day off ( self-employed legal immigrant who became a citizen, so he had a rough boss), Mom did when I was younger, then my brother and I mowed it. Never hurt a one of us.
We had a push mower until we moved to the country, and had a HUGE yard. How come nobody thought to bring the cows to the yard? Oh well, too late now. We already learned the work ethics.

You know, you're absolutely right. Now I just mow my own lawn, but I did find other work. I was raised not to be a slacker. Now though, most of the kids my age don't do anything and become lazy bums. Generation saving America, pfftt.

I was lucky enough to have an older brother!

And yes, it was his job to mow. Did I mention we lived on 5 acres? He had to drive a very very old beat up tractor with a mowing implement attached to the back.

Horribly, terribly uncool for a 15-17 year old boy!

Probably explains why he's a warped 54 year old today......

Mowing lawns, painting, weeding, helping a contractor, projects around the house.

There are plenty of people who mow their own lawns still, need help with projects around the house, so if you really want to find something it is there - but isn't going to come knocking on your door.

Babysit, or try to do odd jobs like washing a neighbors car, or help elderly neighbors with putting thier groceries away... Various things... My parents either do thier own yard work now, but they used to let my little sister's friend come and cut grass to earn extra money. He did a really good job too...

I definitely see your problem with what is wrong with today though...

I have always mowed my own lawn....And one at one point, it was half an acre and I had no riding mower either! I did it with the push mower....Got me in great shape...Today, I can afford to pay someone, but I have NEVER been approached by a teenager....I have a Gardner, US citizen, who comes once a month and trims the trees and bushes...I don't have a lawn...

My mom always did it. When we were old enough,6 or 7 years old we started with just pulling weeds. My husband and I always did our own lawn in the good old days when we could still afford our house. We also did our own pool, painting, plumbing, just about everything we did ourselves.Growing up and watching my mom paint the whole house inside and out by herself was great, she was very tough.

There were still illegal immigrants 20 years ago.
Remember the amnesty that Reagan provided?

The bottom line is that some companies PREFER to hire "illegals" because
1) they are not under age
2)they don't have restricted availability
3)they are very eager to work, and already have experience

It is just the way it is.

my cousin is 8 and washes neighbors cars on the weekend for $5 a car..inside and out.

We did and still do. When we vacation, a kid down the street mows.
