I don't know the name of the phobia but some people have that of cats and it has a medical name. You could try looking in a book for the name or ask a doctor. I had a grown friend that was afraid of cats. She dreamed they would attack her. Some times children have a bad experience that makes them afraid of animals.

She's just being cautious of new things - yes this is normal for a toddler. Best not to put the kittens in her face, just let child and animal discover each other in their own time.

My niece really likes mice, on TV, and really wanted to meet my pet mice, but she did NOT want them put on her hands, she got very worried! I wasn't surprised.

I am in my twenties and until a few years ago I was scared of cats. My husband fed a stray and she kept hanging around and I would make my husband hold the cat back if i had to get to the car. I now love cats. I am scared of dogs though, even puppies.

My mom is afraid of them, and I'm 30- though your niece may in time realize they aren't scary and like them. It's normal, though, as long as she's not screaming like a maniac. My mom loves my kittens, but she is afraid of being bitten. This is logical, as they do bite.

At her age yes. Just tell her that the kitten is nice and try to keep her around them she just needs to get used to them.

Yes, it's normal. She's just never been exposed to one enough- to her it's something completely foreign and odd-

it moves, and breathes, and eats, and it's hairy- in her mind he's thinking "what in the he!! is that??"

She'll be fine- and get over it, with gentle, frequent exposure...
