She gave birth to Jesus that is why. It is a pretty story and I happen to like it.

Sigh.
Familiar with John 1:1, are you? " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." And John 1:14? "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
How, exactly, was the Word made flesh except via Mary? He didn't walk out of a burning bush, He didn't materialize as if by a Star Trek transporter, He was born. He had a mother. She gave birth to Jesus, fully man and fully God. Ergo ... mother of God. Theotokos.
Really, this Maryphobia among other Christians is getting wearisome. And that's what it is, if you are so afraid to give Mary one tiny bit of honor lest it somehow smack of paganism. It's sad.
[Edit] "She gave birth only to the human part of Jesus". WHAT?? She gave birth to a human child and, after leaving her womb, THEN his "divine part" somehow came into the picture? That's what you're saying. No. FULLY man. FULLY God. From the moment of conception. If this is the kind of convoluted thinking required in order to discredit Mary as the mother of the second Person of the Trinity, then all I can conclude is that you don't accept the Trinity either.

If Jesus is God Incarnate and Mary is His mother,Mary is the Mother of God since natures don't have mothers, persons do.
The human nature that Almighty God took to Himself in Jesus was Mary's. She gave "birthability" to God by giving the Eternal and Infinite Creator a creaturehood"to put on".
Mary as Mother of God or Theotokos or "The-One-To-Whom_-She- Gave- Birth -Is- God" is logically Christian and is crucial to a real understanding of the Word-Became_Flesh.
Luther, Calvin and most of the early Protestants had no problem with Mary, the Mother of God.
Mary is not the Mother Goddess or eternal begettor ofthe Trinity, but"merely" a pure human by grace who accepted becoming mother of Jesus,True God and True Man,One Person. This is not pagan. Mary was saved by grace and the application of the infinite merits of Christ ,Who died and rose for her as much as for any of us( The Immaculate Conception does not contradict this)
Mary is not a mere recasting of Isis, Mater Magna,Artemis of Ephesus or the like for she is not in any way a pre-existent goddess or feminine expression of the Eternal.

Mary gave birth to the GOD-MAN, Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit! It's a mystery. Because God the Son became Man at the incarnation. Jesus Christ is fully man (without sin) and fully God at the same time. Jesus has a distinct human and divine nature in one divine person! The Blessed Virgin Mary carried in her holy sinless womb the God-Man Jesus Christ!God bless.

We call Mary the Mother of God to affirm that Jesus is one person (rather than two people, a human one and a divine one). We believe that person Jesus is God, with two natures, one divine, the other human. As strange and as offensive as it sounds, since we believe that Jesus is God, we believe that God is now a human being.
Thus calling Mary the Mother of God affirms that she didn't just carry a "human nature" inside of her, but a person Who was God.

a million. We call Mary the mummy of God because of the fact Jesus is God and Mary is His mom. it is quite greater of a assertion approximately Jesus than that's approximately her. 2. Do you think of that Jesus is two people, one human and one divine, and that's how Mary might nicely be the mummy of Jesus' humanity in basic terms? it quite is style of wierd. Catholics believe that Jesus - the 2d guy or woman of the Holy Trinity - is the two human and divine in a fashion that isn't be in a position to be separated into 2. Mary is basically His mom, not mom of a million/2 of Him.

"She gave birth to Jesus only the human part of Jesus"
And those Christians who subscribe to the idea of the Trinity maintain that Jesus was God (along with a couple of other entities usually referred to as the Father and Holy Ghost).
Ergo, that makes her God's Mom.
It might be more to the point to try to dissect the idea of the Trinity (just a suggestion).

She is the mother of God. God came in form and dwelled with us. Mary gave birth to God in the flesh, the Spirit of God, God Himself, has ALWAYS existed.

Jesus was God Mary was his mother. She is either the mother of God, or Jesus wasn't God. You can't have it both ways.

so he wasnt in human form ?
never came to earth ?
look I am not a Catholic let alone a Christian
but if you are going to believe that God took human form and was given birth to .... why not respect and revere the lady who helped this happen
I dont get why Catholics get a bad rap for this to be honest
or do people not like females being given credit ?
