My cat was coughing so I took her to the vet. He said it was asthma and her lungs and things looked ok and told me to change her litter because of the dust. I did that she still coughs off and on but I also noticed that she coughs sometimes after eating.Anyone hear of this with asthma and aren' t there any treaments for asthma? Sometimes, especially in the heat she coughs alot. Thx!

Yes, there are treatments for asthma, and more than just changing litter!

If that really is all your vet told you to do, I would find another vet pronto. There are inhalers availalbe for cats, they come with a mask you have to hold over the cat's face so they can breathe the stuff in. As with humans, asthma should not go untreated.

Find a new vet, they will request the previous history and xrays (that were presumably done) from your current vet (or they ought to). They may even double check this diagnosis if they doubt asthma. But I would definitely get a second opinion!

Coughing can also be caused by "kennel cough" (bordatella) and heart conditions. I assume those were ruled out?

I agree that your cat needs more thorough treatment to be comfortable.

Have you considered other sources of allergies in your home? Have you added any "smelly stuff" lately like air freshener, candles, perfumes or new cleaners? I have asthma and, yes, eating is difficult when I'm having a reaction.
